The land is owned by someone already, Government, personal etc. The real question is when can it be put to useful use again and the answer is in about 50 to 75 years the longer the better. The flow that I live on was from the 1920's if memory serves and its still a lot of lava rock to move before you try to plant a tree or dig a septic system. Funny thing about ROCK, it does not break down easy.

The Lava is still active up slope from the leading edge, its heading in a North Northeast direction to a little valley kind of place which if it decides that that is the direction it will finally take it will go just south of the farmers market that is open on Sundays, its mostly farms and few houses from that point all the way to the ocean. It will cross the highway leaving those of us in lower Puna isolated and cut off from the rest of the island. This is not a big problem as we moved here to get away from it all.

Hawaii- the most isolated place on the planet.

Reasons to move to Hawai'i - your kids cant drop in on you easily.

The volcano is rumbling, the lava bubbling, but it isn't revealing what it is going to do.

As one gambler said to another - Lady Luck is keeping the hand close to her breast.

This is one of those cases that no news is good news.

As one African PETA member said to the hunter -- No gnu's are good gnu's. . .

I"m just a wildebeast and crazy gnu, ain't I?

Where is Andrew when you need him? I say this shaking my head.

Yes the lava has stopped again, but what until tomorrow. It looks like it will be crossing the highway north of the fire house which is a good thing its now threatening some farm land and one person there is really pissed at the state and federal government and is calling for the Kingdom of Hawai'i to return to power because this will make Pele happy and then she will stop this flow. I told her that Pele will take back what is hers but not to worry, if we live long enough it will cover everything over the next ten thousand years or so. She then explained that I did not belong here and had nothing to say, I politely corrected her, pointing out that even though I agree with her that the Kingdom of Hawai'i was stolen from them it will never ever return, not ever.

I guess you must get into this kind of argument at least once then you learn to shake your head and smile because they really believe that the government is going to give it back to them, really, they even started parsing out the land a week ago, yea, (the loony tunes music is now playing in my head), they truly believe the lawsuit they filled in the 1990's is about to set them free.

What you don't want to do is ask them what happens if the USA does give the kingdom back to them? I made the mistake of asking what about the defense of the islands, are you going to ask the US government to keep the 5th fleet here? I got a resounding NO, so then I asked "your bringing back the Hawaiian navy?" (that's 22 outrigger canoes complete with paddlers) I got a blank look, yea they have really thought this out.

One of the things you must learn here is keep your opinion to yourself at least until the other person states there positions then you can at least get out of the conversation gracefully. No sense making an enemy because you think there fucken nuts, just smile and go on.

I really do love it here and the people are really nice, at least most of them and the ones that have smoked to much pot who sit around the camp fire dreaming about the glory days of years past, (150 years in the past) when the Kingdom of Hawai'i was the law of the land with a king and the royals and the common folk and the slaves and (someone needs to pass that joint) they will be the ruling party again, (pass the bong).

I think that the sacrifice to Pele should involve Tom Brady's balls.

(that's all that's on the news today - balls, balls, balls)

Nice way to treat a good California boy and in just over a week with a little bit of luck, (wait, Luck is out of it) he and his team will take apart Seattle.

Things start to get back to normal, as the lava flow keeps moving north it looks like the market place will be spared, Longs Drug store will reopen next week, the others are getting ready for there move back into business. The transfer station which had lava flow down into the one side will close as a tourist site and next week they will start repairs and will reopen March 1st.

The lava is still active but it now looks like if it crosses the highway it will be well north of the little sleepy village of Pāhoa.

Life is good, Aloha

I even forgot to check the lava report on Big Island Video News there had been so little to report in the past week or so.

It seems the lava has slowed and is filling in the areas nearest the crater or Pu'u' O'o' . . .

I read tax payer money was being consumed to break up lava rock

near the power station of Pahoa.

Why? We can only wonder.
