My newest hobby is reviving my old college bar tending skills. I've started drinking again.

I've just belatedly noticed this thread & in particular Lilac's much earlier post about the Moorish Castle & palaces in Sintra, Portugal.

I actually visited Sintra in March, on a hot & sunny spring day during a week-long stay in Lisbon.

I took a suburban train from Lisbon to the nice decoratively tiled station in Sintra, which is about a mile out of town.

After a walk into town, followed by a hair-raising fast mini-bus trip up the steep narrow winding road leading to the high hilltop castle, I was rewarded with magnificent views from the restored battlements of the surrounds, including Estoril & the Atlantic coast to the west & Lisbon in the far distance to the south-east.

After later viewing the lovely local palaces, including the Palacio da Pena even further up the hill, I eventually recovered from my exhausting exploits by enjoying some liquid refreshment in a pleasant bar opposite the station before my train journey back to Lisbon.

The day-trip was great &, Lilac, if you're ever in Sintra again, you should definitely visit the castle, as long as your disposition will enable you to survive the scary minibus trip to the hilltop & you're capable of walking up the very steep inclines of some of the battlements.

In my free time, I relax with friends, watch movies, attempt to cook (and hopefully not poison anyone or have more kitchen fires), visit www.eunuch.org, etc. And you?
