I am now fully castrated and like the result- and the process of being castrated.
" Do you mean that you went to a urologist and he/she removed your atrophied testicles? Can you give us more specifics about the turn of events that led to your castration?

Hi Folks,
I just had my routine visit to the Endochronologist. My T level is now down to 96 and my E level is 44 (Labcorp's scale). The T level is well below normal which was the goal.
I am wondering if the fact that I take Estrogen (Premarin) will suffice as a substitute for the lack of T in terms of other effects on my health (like osteoperousis and so forth). In other words, I am thinking that our bodies need one hormone or the other, but not necessarily both for good health. I have now essentially switched from a dominance of T to a dominance of E.
Again, will the E protect my health as did T in the past? Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks,
Danielle
If you do take Estrogen yes it will keep your bones healthy. But you will have femization, breast growth etc.

Hi _g
Yes, that is fine. E has already done that to me substantially. Just was curious if E would replace T in terms of the necessary health requirements of hormones in the body to keep everything else in reasonable balance.
Thanks,
Danielle

I would suggest switching from Premarin to 17-beta estradiol. Premarin is mixed equine estrogens, while 17-beta estradiol is identical to the estrogen produced in the human body. (I won't discuss the animal cruelty arguments, there's more than enough of that all over the web.) 17-beta estradiol is produced from soy compounds and is relatively inexpensive, as well.

Hi,
Is 17-beta estradiol in pill form or is it an injectable? I certainly would prefer sticking with a pill form for convenience.
Thanks,
Danielle

Yes, it's a very small round or football-shaped tablet. The brandname product is Estrofem (
http://www.inhousepharmacy.biz/transgen ... fem-t.html). Rather than swallowing and digesting it as you probably do with Premarin, you allow it to dissolve beneath your tongue (sub-lingually). It has a somewhat sweet taste, and requires only three-to-five minutes to dissolve and be absorbed by the numerous blood vessels on the underside of your tongue.

Danielle,
I was chemically castrated for nearly 3 years before I was surgically castrated. During that period I took no calcium supplements other than that in my daily multi-vitamin. Several months after my orchiectomy, I had a bone density test done and was found to be in the osteopina range. This isn't as bad as osteoporosis but is less dense than ideal. My urologist suggested that I begin taking at least 1200mg/day of a calcium supplelent but also some hormone. He said that either estrogen or testosterone aids in bone density because it helps the calcium be absorbed better. It was interesting that he was very ambivalent about which one I used and let me choose. I didn't really want to develop any female characteristics so I chose T but only a very low dose to keep my libido in check. I had another bone density x-ray done a couple months ago after a couple years on this therapy and my bone density is now up into the normal range.

Hi Caith,
Do you happen to know what equivelant Estrofem dosage would provide the same blood concentrations of Estodiol as does what I am presently taking (0.9mG Premarin x 1 per day)? The importance of that question arises out of the fact that it took years to finally zoom - in on a reasonable dose of Premarin (titration) and I would want not want to go through that process again. It would be great to just switch over and have the same effect from the get-go.
All the best,
Danielle

Hi Clys -
That is good to know and it sort of agrees with my suspicions. The human body needs one of the two (E or T) to maintain bone health (and probably other aspects of human health too). I suspect that it would be dangerous to just get castrated and then forget about doing any sort of HRT.
Thanks,
Danielle

estrofem vs estrace ? Estrace is micronized so it dissolves easily under the tongue. I think that estrofem is intended to be swallowed. But can you just put estrofem under the tongue to dissolve it ? Is the dose as effective as it would be if swallowed ? I understand that by not swallowing pills and avoiding the drug passing through the liver it helps avoid some possible side effects. Any information or experience ???
