Re: There's Always The Weather
It was a hot day as advertised and then some.
Due to stay hot through the weekend with hot alerts and hot watches.
Got up to 85F with bright sun. Kept the A/C going all day.
Then around 7PM, an hour before sunset, a thick high fog came in with a refreshing coolness.
Aahhh, the elements. :p
The peaches, boysenberries and blackberries should speedily ripen now.
Been having a few for the last few days.
Applying more imported water in preparation for tomorrows heat.

Re: There's Always The Weather
85? Sissy. It was 104 here with a heat index of 111. Then, just to put a point on the day, the city was hit was a severe thunderstorm that brought 80mph winds and intense microbursts; At one point all the doors that weren't latched as carefully as I'd thought, popped open and two window were blown out with the pressure. Makes one understand why airplanes have been smashed into the ground when making a landing-I'm thinking of the L-1011 crash in Dallas a number of years ago. Only 95 today.... We all worship at the great good god AC. (The meaning of the two letters are too frightening for the populace to know.)

I was going to complain about our local temperature of 101 till I saw the post by considering. Still, 101 is HOT when you consider I don't have AC nor do I have a swamp cooler.

Re: There's Always The Weather
It has been hot, in the mid 80s lots of humidity, however a couple of fans to move the air is all thats needed, I have a couple window units that I will put in later this summer for those 3 weeks that are over 100 but anything less a fan will do.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Ahhh paradise.
Just south of Camolot.
There is record heat just a few miles inland of me. MacWolfLand.
The coastal effect is really kicking in with another fog expected tonight.
What is unusual is the heat is NOT associated with Santa Ana winds. Honest heat.
Peaches ripen at a faster rate. So are the onions. I am pondering harvesting them and going for a second crop. The corn is having a hard time "kicking in". About one in five show growth like they are there to make it. Like one of two tomato plants I tend in my neighbors front yard from the sidewalk.
Hey he wasn't using the land. We share the tomatoes.
needs an interstate water pipeline system so them with too much can lackadaisically pipe it to those with too little for storage in distant reservoirs or aquifers or to the Platte River or the Colorado River for a shorter pipeline and eco nice means.

I may do that. My wife makes some awful good home-made tomato soup. We keep it frozen so that we don't have to can it. Of course, you'd get a share, too.
Re: There's Always The Weather
I have super low acid heirloom WHITE tomatoes, and jumbo reds. I also have mystery volunteers.

We have fans to move the air about into other rooms. But I find no comfort or whatever in suffering needlessly. Besides when it gets hot AND humid, I have a hard time breathing. I'll deal with the escalated electric bill - it aint that much more, used selectively.

I get a special medical rate for that, so I run my A/C with relative impunity.
Plus if I blow the grid, my NG generator will kick in.
Check if your electric company offers these "medical rates" where climate control is a matter of health.
G'luck
The cherry tomatoes are sweet, the Babcock peaches white and free stone, continue sweet and juicy.
Treating my self to more chopped fresh white onion garnishing my food because I think they really need to be harvested. Beefsteak tomatoes are ripening. I love that variety. Hard to grow and the worms seem to like them too

Mid 80's and humid?
I'm still in long sleeve T and jeans.
Call me when it hits 90 and full sun, in a heat island.
