The weather man promised more of the same all week, rain and snow however this weekend should be in the 60s then next week in the 70s. for you on C that's 15 to 20c and for the record its snowing right now. Yes I wish my youngest grandson Happy Birthday he is 4. I will tell him when he is older it snowed on his B-day.

The Loquats are really sweet this year, "Northern" Mexicans like them.

Yep the fire season is on in Southern California, I worry that moi's hideout will be going up in smoke as the fire rages on, and here we are still being snowed on, I hope it warms up to 40 or more, it would be so nice to be able to go outside without a parka. Now all California needs is a good earthquake

Moi lives in Orange County. There's not enough vegetation to sustain a fire down there. The fires are all in the civilized counties like Ventura, capital of the porn industry, (Camarillo fire which evacuated Cal State Channel Islands which isn't on an island but occupies the buildings of the former Camarillo state Hospital for the Criminally Insane), Los Angeles (minor brush fire in Monrovia last week) and Riverside (the Summit fire). I live next door to the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriels, and conditions are really dry. The brush is already brittle and turned to tinder.

Firestorm.

If you have never witnessed a firestorm, you have really missed experiencing the elements.

Most amazing, or sensational is the "wind" the fire creates. There is a ground level sucking wind toward the fire. Then there is the steady thin (compared to burned areas) but massive line of flames. I witnessed such a line coming over a crest of a mountain range down into the valley below as the Laguna Beach fire spread into Irvine hills. Some of my neighbors were evacuating. I wasn't. I had faith it would not jump a 6 lane highway, burn down the University of California, Irvine, cross a very green & wet park, jump another 6 lane highway, cross more well watered lawns and then, burn down my condo. I was right.

I maintain my current home with Class A, non flammable, materials where I can, especially on the roof.

Ranch properties are properly maintained by goat & people labor to create fire breaks.

A wise homeowner can do a lot to protect their property even from such approaching fire storms.

The fire does indeed go around or die.

Roof sprinklers are also known to save a home

If I did live in such a fire hazard zone for my primary home, I would have a cellar or bomb shelter to retreat to should circumstances require and otherwise I would stay with my home under firestorm conditions.

The temperature here today is similar to yesterday but the air is fresher. No A/C.

No smell of "the fire" or sign of smoke in the sky.

"They" say we will have rain starting Sunday and into Monday. Chances, not steady.

That is going to be some weather change. Over a 20F drop.

BTW, Imagine a soft fleshed apple crossed with a peach and you have the consistency and juiciness of a Loquat. And I got them by the ton. They grow "wild".

Gareth, I know the fires are at least 50 miles away from Moi, I was born and raised in the valley and at one time in my married life lived in Ventura among other cities in California, mostly in the central valley and bay area. I was just trying to give moi a hard time and play to his paranoia.

As I remember San Gabriel as a fire every once in a while and burns down many homes, you be careful.

The nearest Fire threat to me, besides a neighbor's home, would involve the Upper Newport Bay preserve. How about you, G ?

I mentioned the Laguna Beach, hills fire crossing the ridge and approaching my Condo in Irvine.

There is also the O.C. portion of Cleveland National Forest. A real tinderbox with steeper slopes then any area mentioned so far.

And there is the acreage at Pendleton military base that ignites now and then due to live fire exercises.

One year there were major fires all around my Newport Beach location except toward the ocean.

Daytime was orange and it rained ash for two days.
