OK, let's go full circle. Allow me venture my understanding regarding transgirl23ny post when she started this thread.
Frankly, I don't understand why people read the Old Testament. The "Law" was given by Moses, NOT God. God (YHVH), gave Moses the 10 Commandments on the mountain. The "Law" was given to the Israelites to govern them in the wilderness and typically the Lawyers (Teachers of the Law) added and amended the LAW of Moses after the Isrealites entered the promised land.(I believe the Muslim teachers also added and amended most of the Koran as well)
Now, I'm sure Moses and Jesus (Angel of YHVH) discussed the LAW in the tent where Moses met with the LORD.
Many times the Son of God (Jesus) himself referred to the Law of Moses:
* "...Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law..."
and
* "...But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded..."
* "...Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives..."
*"...The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat..."
* "...For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother..."
* "...What did Moses command you?" he replied.
* "...When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed..."
Jesus nullified the Law of MOSES and not the 10 Commandments ("...I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished..."). Now some will say that Law is the Law of Moses.
Not at all, Jesus quoted from the 10 Commandments by saying:"...'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments..."
Thus, the Law of Moses and prophets were supposed to reflect the Law of Jesus (10 Commandments), but it failed. Jesus actually had to come to us to correct the Law. He proved it, taught it, healed by it and was judged by the Law of Moses...DEATH!! Death, THAT is the Law of Moses!
Christians might even go to hell for trying to uphold the LAW OF MOSES. Jesus instructed us to obey HIS LAW (commandments) which are written throughout the New Testament.
Jesus ordered...
"Moses said 'Do not commit adultery.'
but I say..."[Placing His law above Moses' Law and authority] that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
"A new command (Law) I give you... (The REAL Law in the NT)
So, there is the LAW given by MOSES (for the Jews) and the LAW given by CHRIST (for the Christians).
Fellow Christians, read the Old Testament for your own edification, but be careful of the law of MOSES. Jesus instructed the Apostles by laying out/interpreting/explaining the Old Testament and the Apostles in turn created the New Testament through their letters and writings to the churches. Jesus fulfilled that law and corrected all the "wrongly interpreted" parts in the Law, such as these examples:
Moses stoning to death vs Love and forgive
Moses smite cheek vs offer the other cheek
Law of Moses creates hypocrisy vs Jesus' law of meekness, honesty, love.
...and so I can carry on but read Matthew 5 & 6. Write the NEW TESTAMENT on your hearts, NOT the OLD TESTAMENT.
St. Paul also said that if you want to obey THE LAW OF MOSES...BECOME A JEW AND do what we all desire on this archive!
Here is his words:"...Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. As for those agitators [people who persecuted St. Paul for preaching against the circumcision (metaphor for the Law)], I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!..." How's THAT!!?? Paul says obey the Law of Moses and become a NULLO!
If you want to obey the LAW of Moses, HE (Moses) will continuously accuse you [regarding disobedience of his law] before God as you endeavour to live the Law. You won't (trying to live Moses' Law) live under the grace of Jesus (and His Law). Jesus even said so!..."...But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set (by obeying his LAW)..."
OK River...NOW you can close this threat if you want to.
