Oh yeah saw a thing about E85 on Modern Marvels.... heres an eye opener the process they use to get the Ethanol is very inefficent. They burn oil to heat the fermentaion vats instead of burning the organic residue from the process. As a result it takes 1 gallon of crude to make 1.6 gallons of Ethanol. So you still are emitting and burning fossil fuel to get "clean fuel" . Wouldn't it be more sensible to use waste organic material to burn and heat the vats then oil???? Cleaner as well the ash is useful for making ocncrete fertilizer and other products..

That would make sense but remember, its all about the oil.

Hmmm....ethanol just isn't cost efficient. Electric may be the way to go.
By the way, for the corn it takes to make a gallon of ethanol you could feed someone for a year. Something to think about.

back to the original post,
Nice to know that its not just US science that gets funding for fool hardy studies. A few years ago here in Maryland, there was a federal grant issued to study the mating habits of the Chincotegue oyster. In case someone doesn't know , oysters do not move, and for reproduction, the male spews out semen , that may or may not fall on a female with eggs. there is no interaction, they are solitary creatures.
Now that I have spouted off a conclusion that has been known for 1000 years, where do I sign up to collect my 500,000 dollar grant?

Can someone explain to me why they can't make one of the electric pieces of shit that looks like something you'd WANT to be seen in? And a Dodge?! No thank you, been there, done that, had Mr. Mopar's dick up my ass once already...he wont' get no 2nd date!
And can you believe the audacity of these gas stations nowadays?
Used to be, you could drop a tube down the main gas drop of the holding tanks and turn on an auxiliary fuel pump with the other end of the tube routed into your tank and get free gas! Now there's screens in the drop necks, or they lock them! The nerve!

LOL
Same thing with Termites and Carpenter ants. i recall a study back in the 70's and the numbers were shocking. Oh yeah same study also did the cow thing, Guess some researchers want to waste tax dollars redoing studies then spending time doing a wearch on the web these days.

Come on that had to have been back inthe early 80's with the POS K-cars.
I loved the MOPARS I have owned never a problem with them from my '69 Formula S 340 Factory racer 'Cuda to my '89 Shelby Daytona. Worst vehicles ever owned have been GMC products hell in the last two years I have dumped 8 grand in repairs into our 2001 Blazer that has only 35 K on it. Yeah GM warrenty sucks big time. And don't get me started on the 2001 Nissan XTerra my ex husband and I owned from November 2001 to August 2002 that sepnt a total of 9 weeks in the dealer getting repaired from parts failing. so much for Nissan dependability transfer case, front axle, cylinder heads, anti lock brake failure, Transmission locking in third gear, more engine issues they replaced the engine finally.

The only thing I will ever think about buying any more are Chevy Pickups (Silverado) and Express Vans (Silverados with big boxes on em ). My2002 Silverado 1500 Pick is on 237K miles, fine condition, though I do get occasional repairs (new alternator this AM - any alternator is usually only good for ~100K, mine had 237K). I'm working on second quarter million miles - about 3-4 more years. My Dodges and Fords were absolute crap. Even my brother-in-law who owns a local Ford dealership, won't even drive them.
Don't get Paolo started on Mopars. He wont just blister them, he'll do it to your reading glasses too

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- A Swedish university has received $590,000 in research funds to measure the greenhouse gases released when cows belch.
About 20 cows will participate in the project run by the Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, about 40 miles north of Stockholm, officials said Monday.
Cattle release methane, a greenhouse gas believed to contribute to global warming, when they digest their food. Researchers believe the level of methane released depends on the type of food the eat.
Project leader Jan Bertilsson said that the cows involved in the study will have different diets and wear a collar device measuring the methane level in the air around them.
He said 95 percent of the methane released by cows comes out through the mouth.
"This type of research is already being conducted in Canada so we will be in contact with Canadian agricultural researchers in the near future," he said.
The research will be funded by a grant from the government's Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning.
Well I suppose you all know that sheep are also serious belching and farting culprits. Is anyone doing anything about the Western US where states such as Nevada and Colorado have a considerable sheep population?? Perhaps someone could devise a catalytic afterburner there to take care of the problem. Not sure what could be fitted for the belches though.
I live in Australia and one of the good things about it is that it is generally upwind from New Zealand, the sheep producing capital of the world or it would be a lot hotter here, assuming of course that methane is the chief culprit for global warming rather than the CO2 which Nobel Laureate, Al Gore, aka Chicken Little, claims as the chief culprit.
BTW I have it on good authority from my farmer friends that Aussie sheep are too gentlemanly (or ladylike as the case may be) to belch or fart but that is not the case in NZ or the USA either one. However, I would bow to a greater authority if any such authority would challenge that statement.
