I also am very sorry you lost your friend. Like Mac, I have had a lot of dogs in my life. Every time I lost one, I would cry and still do to this day. I wish they could out live us. It probably won't be too long and I will lose my 13 year old Basset Hound. She is a wonderful dog, but she is going blind. She still has a great nose and can hear very well and still runs around like a pup. We just bought a Shiba Inu puppy who is the most energetic dog I've owned. He's put a little spring in the old girl's step. I guess I am being a little selfish for getting him. I'm hoping he will ease the pain when we lose her.
Loss of a pet is always hurtful, but we have to go on. You can never find another dog that will replace your loss, but you can find one that can fill your heart. Don't leave that space empty for too long. There is someone out there that is waiting to fill it.
Steve

I'm so sorry to hear that Ken, its heartbreaking when pets pass away, I can only offer lots of hugs thru here and my sympathies. Like other members have stated, its always a tough time when we lose pets we care about so much... when my snake died back in 2003 i cried for a week, it was like losing a member of my family...
I know some people will never understand but to me (and I suspect all who've posted here already) they represent an unconditional love that a lot of people so rarely find in other humans and are always there when we need them, expecting so little in return.
I won't say I know how you feel (i can only imagine), but i'll be thinking of you at this sad time

Ken,
I'm very sorry to hear of Max's passing. Our pets really do become part of the family. Losing one is always very hard. Max's tail wag will always be with you, though.

Ken, I'm sorry to hear of Max.
I'm coming up on the one year mark for when I lost my cat "Feet" to Feline Leukemia. I still miss him with the way he'd jump into bed with me and flop down on my laid out arm. He also "made biscuits" and is how he got his name Feet.
Feet's last day on this earth, he made biscuits. I still remember it.
Max was very close to you. Pets get very close to a lot of us. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I too am sorry to hear of your loss. Being as old as I am and having lived most of that life in the country, I always had pets. Some would die of natural causes and some would get hit by cars. The loss was always great in my mind. I'd cry and miss them most when they were not in bed with me.

Sorry about your loss. I to lost my little girl named Pixel just after this last Halloween. My mother can not say no to any animal, so we too have lots and lots of pets. But Pixel and I bounded right away and she became my little girl. One time I had the a bad flu (as if there is a good flu) and was sick for a week. At one point she insisted on coming up to my bed, so i lifted her up (she was only 15 pounds). She climbed on my chest and proceeded to lick my lips and nose, and then she put her head down and looked me in the eyes. It was if she was saying, "sorry your sick daddy!" Not even five minutes later she wanted back down, and went back to her sleeping spot. That was one of the few times she wanted in my bed.
Every Halloween I dressed her up in costumes and we went out to the pet costumes. Halloween was our time together, and I think her best costume was a butterfly.
The day after Halloween she became sick, and slept all day. The next she threw up a little, and then she seemed to get better and started bouncing around the house. However, after two days she got sick again and went right down hill. She passed away in my arms and we were looking into each others eyes when her legs started twitching and then her eyes went from shinny to dull. I knew she just past away. She was the light of my life and my heart was ripped out.
In the week after word, I woke one morning and could smell her right next to my face, but as soon as i turned my head it was gone. While using the bathroom one morning i smelt her on my right side, but that too was just as fleeting. Little things kept happening that I could not explain like waking to the sound of a dog drinking out of water dish...I could not bring myself to pick up for a few days. The incidents have gotten fewer, but there is a stick on her grave that keeps moving around, and i keep putting it back in the same spot. No one in the house is touching it, so i think it is her.
I do believe that when one gets back to heaven your pets will be there waiting for you! After all God loves them too!

Ken and Josh I am sorry for the loss of Max. I am sure he considered himself a lucky dog having two very loving people to look after him.

Like others, I offer my sympathy. It seems harder each time one passes on. In time, I hope you feel OK enough to find another pet. Experts say not to try to 'clone' what you had--find the other gender (curious thing to say on this website!) and a different breed so you won't be 'comparing'. maybe you could foster care an older, harder to place dog--like children, everyone wants a baby. an older dog that someone needs to give up due to going into a nursing home, etc often will make a great choice-housebroken,etc. good luck with your grief. helen
