While I may not agree with his reasons, I don't see him as necessarily being 'mentally ill' by default any more than anyone here who wants to have their genitals removed.

Lets face it, by and large the membership here is somewhat biased on this particular issue. To the majority of people, lopping off body parts is lopping off body parts.

In addition, it's not stated as to why he microwaved the hand. Perhaps the intent was not to cook it, but rather to make sure there was no chance of reattachment. If anyone here were to decide to remove their own genitals (hopefully they won't), would we really look down at them for attempting to destroy the removed parts before seeking medical attention?

This current case, was also for religious or faith motivations, but the man cut off his hand because he thought the "mark of the beast" was on it. Interesting coicidence though, the oft quoted bible verse "if thyne eye offends thee, pluck it out... if thyne hand offends thee, cut it off..."

Perhaps we should start telling medical professionals that your balls offend god and they have to be removed!

Some here at Eunuch Archive has had appendages removed for various reasons. I lost half a thumb by pure accident. And I for one will testify that it is a real pain in the butt. Without half a thumb, you can't open doors easily. You can't button shirts well. I really miss that half a thumb. It had to been the dumbest thing that I ever did.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I'm lucky to have all my appendages even after many close calls on the job, not to mention some stupid pranks that went a bit wrong. I really do like all my appendages.... except the two hanging below my pee pee

Now, there are 6.6 billion folks on this planet. There have to be a handful of them that want their limbs removed and since it's so odd, the newspapers are going to bring it to the forefront of the paper. I wonder if that may have been what happened here.

I think that if someone either has the balls to follow through with their own amputation while in reasonable mind, then they shouldn't be thought of as being crazy. I mean, crazy in the sense, that doctors want him doped up all the time. We the people can think he's crazy all we want... I just dont want the guy to be punished for doing what he believed was right.

Now. I'd like to know the state of mind this guy was in whenever he cooked his own hand. If he wasnt high on drugs and had thought long and hard on how to do this, then I say Bravo! for following through with what he did.

I wouldn't do it or even think of it, but the system shouldn't punish those that have different mindsets from the norm.
