I like Pervez Musharraf (sp) because:
He's a strong leader
He's a U.S. ally even though it's politically dangerous for him to do so.
He goes after terrorists now and then
I'd say we should support him anyway he wants...after all, we don't exactly have a shitload of friends in the Arab-Muslim world.
Yeah, yeah, he's a dictator but our nation has supported dictators against their peoples for decades: PapaDoc Duvelier in Haiti, Jean Bertrand Aristede in Haiti, Anastacio Somoza in Nicaragua, Jose Napoleon Duarte in El Salvador, Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines, Chiang kai-Shek in Nationalist China, plus numerous dictators uin Argentina, Cuba (no, not Castro), Honduras, Chile, Guatemala, Shah Reza Mohammed Pavlavi in Iran, Saddam Hussein in Iraq and the list goes on.
Our only past criteria was: that country's leader let us have a base there or side with us in the U.N. or fight communists for us. Anyone who dared resist the dictator was labeled a "commie" by that government and received lots of U.S. aid.
We didn't care if the dictator tortured his own people, murdered them, committed massacres of entire villages, etc.
Yup, that's the American foreign policy for ya.
