Hi,
now I'm off Androcur for more than one week. Side effects are still unchanged: Weekness and loss of energy during the day and sweating, heart beating and feeling restless during the night. It's impossible to sleep longer than 3-5 hours without tranquelizers.
My body has changed a little bit. I lost 5 kgs and I think it was muscle mass. Arms and legs are thinner now. It's crazy, the last days my left breast seems to develop. I thought I would be untroubled by that as being off Androcur since 10 days. Also in the evening there are very often mood swings with depressions and I start to cry. My wife is totaly confused. She says I've changed completely. She also cannot handle my depressions. We are both waiting for a significant improvement of my medical status.
How long does it take to recover from low testosterone ??? (The Androcur regimen was 3 weeks 150 mg and 1 week fading out 100/75/50 mg)
Libido is low to zero. I can have an erection but with dificulty. Orgasm is week and almost dry. But once again, currently this is not my main concern. I need the testosterone level to get back into normal life.
As always I'm really thankful for all advice.
Greetings, A.

You seemed to have had a bad reaction to the drug. With such a short time being on androcur you body should not have changed much. You may want to try one of the other drugs that can also reduce the hormone levels.
There is also a good possibility that you are having some sort of mental induced effect. That is far harder to predict. Many of the conditions you have are more in line of a person that was on androcur for a far longer time, months to years. Example, some have said that they had full shutdown after the first week on the drug. That is a impossibility but there mind convinced the body that they had full effect. Mind can play some tricks on our body.
There is also another possibility of getting a bad batch of the drug. If you bought it on line the quality of the drug could be in question.
You should be able to be off the drug now. Side effects should reverse in a short time and I would think no long term effects should remain. Wish you luck and a fast recovery.

I would agree with Bobbie, in the sense that the side effects described above are most certainly not related to low t as per se, but are a consequence of a secondary mental reaction to the bothersome night sweats/hot flashes (associated with acute withdrawal) and/or the drug itself.
Tachycardia, high blood pressure, lack of sleep and anxiety/stress are closely related.
Oftentimes, the more you get worked up worrying about your heart rate or BP, the higher it gets (the so-called "snowball effect"). For example, once I measured my BP (with a home device) while mildly nervous, I had a reading of 180/120. A few minutes later, once I've calmed down, I've got 130/90 (my average is ca. 120/80). It's amazing how much we can actually influence our BP with our mind.
Getting enough sleep is likewise crucial to good health. The above symptoms are perhaps the least one should expect as a consequence of prolonged sleep deprivation.

I took depo provera and also ended up in the emergency room a few days later with what turned out to be a severe anxiety attack. I had never had one before and I REALLY thought I was going to die! LoL. In retrospect and with enough time, it is kinda funny now. Seriously, the nurse kept asking me if I was on drugs. I told her no, but I had injected myself with depo provera and she didn't believe me. I was hyperventilating so bad that I was starting to get painful cramps. LoL. Oh that was such a bad turning point in my life. Things are a 1000x better now.
If I can ever find the time to go back through and re-read everything that I wrote in that period of my life and make sure it doesn't contain any names, I will post it on here. I think that it may be very illuminating to some people to see how my desire for castration has come and gone many times in my life as my sex drive has gone into the extreme territory for weeks at a time. I wrote a lot--on the order of 75,000 words in three months!

6 weeks after withdrawal of Androcur side effects have not completely vanished but lowered significantly. Libido is back, ejaculation is back but without much liquid. Muscle mass is still lower than before Androcur regimen, even with regular workouts. Energy is almost back but still lower than before. After withdrawal of Androcur gyno started on my left breast and it still develops. It's a sign that hormonal levels are still out of balance. Testo levels rise but a lot of it transforms into estradiol. Hopefully this stops within some weeks. The left nipple has developed and looks like the one of a woman. That really looks strange. Also Lipomastia has formed a small breast.
Even after a short period of 4 weeks of Androcur the whole system is out of balance and one thing is for sure: It takes months not weeks to recover from an Androcur regimen! And you never know that you'll reach the previous status.
So this should be a WARNING to everybody who is evaluating a testphase with antiandrogens. It is not as simple and reversible as posted in many threads.
Best wishes to you all,
Aquamarin

I would suggest that your body is extremely sensitive to this particular drug. Often, people who are highly sensitive to a drug often recover slowly from its use - though not always. From what I know of the drug, and the numerous reports here over the years about its use, your experience with Androcur is highly unusual. Caution with all drugs is wise, but over-reacting based on one experience is not caution, it is over-reaction.

I have run support groups for transsexuals for a number of years. One thing I cannot emphasize enough is that our hormone system is a delicate equilibrium maintained by a feedback system and that small changes in hormones can cause a wild oscilation of the system. Any time someone is beginning to mess with their hormones I always tell them to expect major mood swings (in effect we are inducing PMS from hell) It doesn't happen for everyone but it happens often enough that you should be aware of the possibility. One question I have is how did you begin the androcur. Did you begin with the full 150 mg dosage. If so that may have contributed to the problem. Best practice is to start w/ half a 50 mg pill for a week or two, get your system adjusted and then gradually increase the dosage sometimes taking several months to reach full dosage. On the wall of our meeting room is a large sign that reads "Rush Slowly."

I would tend to follow the advice of Transward (above). My experience of trying ciproterone acetate (
http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=10341) was a rough ride. It took me a long time to recover from only a week at 50mg per day.

Has anyone experience with Androcur withdrawal effects. Due to heavy side effects I would like to stop my Androcur regimen after three weeks of 150 mg. After that short period of time and that dosage adrenal glands should not be affected to much. Do I risk adrenal insufficiency?
Has anyone made bad experience by a full stop with Androcur?
Really appreciate all kind of advice!!
Being on low T really sucks !!

Hi Aquamarin,
When I was using Androcur the effects were positive & after a couple of weeks lost any erection but still were interested in sex so to speak with my Ladyboy lovers, then when I stopped using androcur it all came back with a rush, hard-ons & large amounts of semen no problem that was actually a good feeling; however liking the androcur result I finally took the dive & were cut two weeks ago & back to the old androcur feelling that I am happy with as a real eunch now; but still have my urge to make love with my Ladboy lovers.
Regards, Beau.
