It's getting to the point that I hate to see pictures of myself. Mirrors lie better than pictures, which are frozen in time. With a mirror, one can shift his gaze or turn his head, finding a better angle, "Oh, I don't look so old."
Pictures, though, are stark reality: "Who the fuck is that old man? Shit, it's me." They never match the image I have of myself -- in my head, in my dreams. I'm much younger there. I'm still a kid there, 18, 20, 21, somewhere around that age, not the old man that pictures say I am.
Yes, yes, but I take pictures the way Rembrandt painted himself repeatedly. I enjoy the comparisons. In a way, I died as a young person at 49 when my former wife left. Ah, the memories.

It is kind of like the Portrait of Dorian Grey.
I don't pay attention until I look in a mirror. I just notice that I don't have the stamina that I once had, but it doesn't seem to slow me down too much.
Life is pretty great, even for older people...if you are healthy...

I am not healthy, but I was most of the time during my youth. I was never athletic but I looked fit. I could walk or canoe for hours. Heart disease surprised me. I expected to die in an accident of some kind. I never expected to live to my age.

The only time that I look into a mirror is when I'm shaving. Maybe that's why I let my beard grow for 3 days at a time. Three days' beard looks sexy on a young man but just slovenly on an old one.
My self-image is that of a young man of 19 or 20. Then that ugly old geezer in the mirror has to intrude and spoil everything. But, even at 20, the mirror didn't reflect ME. It reflected the then handsome body which I occupy and use.
I am that I am. (Peace, Yahweh. There's no copyright on that sentence.) I am the entity which uses this body (whatever it may look like now) for the execution of its will. The personality of this entity is the product of the totality of my experience. The essence of the entity is unknowable. It is I. I am that [which] I am. The association with the image in the mirror is only superficial.
I know that I haven't answered the question in the title of this thread. I doubt that anyone can.

A question to everyone answering this thread: How old are you in your dreams? I'm always young, late teens or early twenties. Does anyone see themselves as their actual age in their dreams?

I do. I cannot recall being younger than I am at the time I have the dream in any dreams. I don't actually see myself in my dreams.

What an interesting question! In my dreams my age varies from very young to very old.My race, gender and appearance also may change from time to time. I've also been non-human in dreams. I suppose this may say something profound about me but I can't imagine what. Ordinarily I'm quite happy with who I am, modification desires and all. --FLO--

Interesting. I usually see myself in my dreams, as if I'm observing someone else, but knowing that it's me, as if I'm watching a movie that I'm starring in. I can't ever remember seeing myself as a person of my actual age. In some ways -- in my dream world -- I remain frozen in time.

A modern day Quaker in full ceremonial locks and anal beads
See my Quaker roots?
Throughout the Dark Ages, (1760-1772) a wave of religious pilgrims know as Quakers flew over from Europe seeking religious freedom. Although their American roots can be traced back to early Philadelphia, Quakers practiced throughout the United States in abandoned houses and Internet cafes. Quakeranity as it is now called, was founded on five basic principles:
* 5 Wives for every man (STILL STR8, just don't look it...

)
* A healthy mullet
* A steady diet of Oats and Barley
* Freedom to practice religion in a horseless barn
* Males allowed to wear Pantyhose and buckle shoes after 1st of May
Today, a more modern version of Quakeranity is practiced with updated garb and without all the animal sacrifices that were common in antiquity. Instead of hosery, men now wear necklaces and bras. Instead of dresses, women wear burqas and bridles.
PROUDLY....(HIC!)

Hmm....Interesting question. I can't say what age I am in my dreams. I need to ponder this question further.
