I have to pump daily generally in the morning for about 20 minutes to empty the breasts or I will leak at work........not a good thing. You generally know when you need to run to the bathroom and express your boob

It's no secret, most of the pharmacies mentioned on the boards carry it. Although you should search for the word "Domperidone" instead of Motilium.

Yes, it is possible for a male to lactate while on Motillium, although you will not develop as much milk with the small amount of breast tissue. I did read an article about the use of Motillium and males lactating (although I can't find that article now).
To quote from memory: This drug was intended for digestive problems, but studies done have found it to help in breast feeding. While mostly beneficial to women wanting to lactate, some men who have taken it have also had this side effect.

FYI: The lactation dose is the same as the "stomach problem" dose: 10mg. 3-4 times a day.

Hi,
I'm taking 60 mg of motillium per day. Generally I pump the breasts daily now.

I have been on 20mgs. a day for 4 days. How long does it take to start lactating? Does it just happen or do I have to stimulate the nipples or something?

The reccomended dose for lactation is 10mg, four times a day for the first week (40mgs a day). The second week is bumped up to 20mg, four times a day and continued for as long as needed (80mgs a day). After about 2 weeks you should notice something happening (at least I did). The breast should begin to feel heavy and swollen and almost ache. There is also the let-down factor wherein the milk will begin to flow on it's own.

I've been reading about some herbs which can help lactation. The ones I have seen are.. Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, and Fennel. The information went something like this..
herbs have been found to be helpful in increasing milk supply for women:
Fenugreek seed - 3 capsules (580-610 mg each) 3 times a day with food
Blessed Thistle herb - 3 capsules (325-390mg each) 3 times a day with food
These dosages were arrived at through a review of the available literature, a review of the recommendations of several herbal companies, and anecdotal evidence. Many women on the protocols have found that Fenugreek taken alone may cause stomach upset but when it is taken in combination with the Blessed Thistle the stomach upset is reduced or nullified.Women often report that they smell like maple syrup or curry while taking fenugreek.
Fenugreek has been reported to affect serum glucose levels. Therefore, diabetic mothers are advised to use this herb with caution.
Fenugreek can aggravate asthmatic symptoms. Therefore, mothers with a history of asthma are advised to use this herb with caution.
Fennel has been used for centuries to enhance breast size and to promote milk production in new mothers. The herbÂ’s history is similar to the story of fenugreek above. It is second only to Fenugreek in estrogenic compounds and can be used in tea or added to lotion and massged directly into the breasts. Fennel is also used to treat amenorrhea, angina, asthma, heartburn, high blood pressure and to increase sexual desire in women. It is rich in the phyto-nutrients that increase breast size and is a great addition to the program. Don't use fennel oil, however. In pregnant women, the oil can cause miscarriage.
Places where I found the information were Here (

http://www.greenbush.net/fenmorin.html) and here (

Has anybody tried using of the herbs mentioned?. It would be nice to know from someone who has actually used them to see if there were any side effects of if they did help at all or not. Thanks! -Fami
