No problem, the quotation is not about religion or “the end of the world” but about the incompetence of Bush administration surpassing the author’s original imagination. The apocalyptic imaginary was a trope—a rhetorical device. 🙄

How quickly discussions drift off topic amazes. Hairless did read the quotation and responded to it. Then you switched from talking about the topic to talking about a new topic. That is my only complaint. You needed to open a new thread. You often disreaged the thread and change topic to one or more of your topics.

The disdain for human and civil rights concerns me because I am a citizen and a human being. The current adminstration is not able to justify what they do. They are incompetent. They disdain civility.

Iran cannot destroy the world. It can be difficult and dangerous. We gave the Iranian plans to develop a nuclear bomb. We simply gave them the plans.

It is too bad, Softee.

Axis of Evil notwithstanding, Iran is not the problem, it seems that our ally, Pakistan, has been the festering, fermenting pot of Islamic Terrorism. The Taliban ideology originated there during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan.

Where do you think that "Viet Nam" terminology came from? It was what WE told them, Afghanistan was going to be Russia's Viet Nam. It was.

However, Iraq is going to be more of our "Spanish American" war instead of another vietnam. Whatever government that is installed there will only be temporary. They are headed full tilt for Civil War in Iraq and I only hope that things can be stablized long enough for us to get out of there.

Iran emerged from being our client state. Oddly but understandably, Iran favored our invasion of Afghanistan. They knew that they had an unstable and dangerous problem with the Taliban. Iran has simply used the discord in Iraq to its advantage. Iran has reasons not to use nuclear weapons. They are in the situation where India, Pakistan, and Israel have such weapons. I understand their desire for them.

Pakistan does not necessarily have to be the locus of extremist Islam, but it is such a locus. Still, there are other forces at work in that state. I fear that you are on target about civil war in Iraq.
