I recently read portions of the book Crossfire by Marrs. I haven't actually read any books that analyze his assertions, but if any substantial part of them are true, then the conclusion has to be, that the Warren Commission's methodology and its report are flawed. It would probably be a miracle if the actual events of the assassination are ever known, since it is now over forty years since the event, many witnesses are dead, and there apparently never was any conclusive evidence. I've gotten somewhat disillusioned with John Kennedy anyway. According to the book, Sinatra The Life, Kennedy may have snorted cocaine while he was President. And everybody knows about the women.
President Kennedy was an odd fellow. He was reckless and thoughtful in the same moment. Who knows who killed him. I tend to think it was a lone gunman, but many people I respect have other opinions about the matter. I am amazed that I know only one serious biography of the man. There are many more interesting biographies of Presidents Truman, Eisenhow, Johnson, and Nixon than of Kennedy. The deeper one digs, the less there seems to be to the man.
I suspect that he was intelligent. I believe that illness and growing up in a profoundly dysfunctional family shaped the man.
The role of drugs in his his life is an area to explore. There is good evidence that he abused them.
I have not read the new biography of Sinatra. Mr. Sinatra seems a man similiar in some ways to the late president. I suspect more depth to Mr. Sinatra than his critics allow. He does seem to have played a heavy.
I know a couple of people on whom graves I might take a piss. I do not hold that against the man that he enjoyed that final triumph.
