We should extract the kind of punisment from those who use mines that the mines cause their victims...Oh, I forgot we use mines too.

A buddy of mine last year was injured, his balls were blown off in such an mine accident, his penis was saved, he is on HRT and dealing with the rest, a good man, cried on my shoulder many times. There are a lot of vets from this last conflict that have lost their testicles!

I think there was a similar mine used in "The Great War" (1914-1918) that was known among the men as the "deballocker," but I can't remember a source for this. This discussion is a good reminder that as much as we can fantasize about this stuff, it can be horrible when it happens. If a guy has to give up his balls, let it not be like this.

I worked with a guy that was shot up by friendly-fire in the first Gulf War and he mentioned that one of the areas that was hit was his gentials.

Also, I remember watching 20/20 years ago where a Vietnam vet who was an amputee said he was pleasantly surprised that he fathered a child considering that he had a "shrapnel vasectomy".

In the book Sexual History of the World War, edited by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, and translated into English in 1939, there is a great deal of information about genital injuries and war eunuchs. This information is found primarily in chapter 12 of this book, but also Chapter 14 of the same book includes accounts of sadism during war, including castration of enemy soldiers. As I recall it being explained to me during my military training, sometime between 1900 and 1920 there arose a general understanding among military authorities that wounding the enemy was more desireable (tactically) than killing him because a wounded soldier consumes several times the resources that a dead one does. Thus the principal design objective of the Bouncing Betty was to get the main charge up where its shrapnel would spread over a much larger area, causing many more wounds. That these tended to be abdominal and genital wounds was, from the designers' point of view, simply a fortuitous side effect.

Basically any blast/shrapanel injury is going to have chance of damaging the genitals, especially if the main injury is to the legs or stomach. However, a mine that "neatly" blows off the genitals is pretty unlikely.

I must say that if one is to lose anything in a war that the genitals are the "best" things to lose since one can lead a reletively normal life without them (i.e have full limb & vital organ function). Also, as I understand it, one is not fit for combat without them.
