This first post makes me think of the "Opus" comic last Sunday.
It seems there's a pill for everything now, and they want you to buy it. Then you have to have a pill to cure what the first pill did in side-effects. Then another and on and on. Lately, doctors are worse than Avon ladies or those who sell Amway junk!

Re: Osteoporosis
Good Folks, Osteoporosis is not corrected by taking excess calcium which is not absorbed. It is a failure of the protein structure of the bone linked to many nutrients most of which are found in green leafy veggies, Castration leaves cortisol unopposed which retards new protein synthesis. Low steroids does not always cause osteoporosis even in the most susceptible.

There are a couple of earlier threads on osteoporosis that have good information. You might want to check them out:

Re: Osteoporosis
I got the test results back from the doctor on my bone scan. It showed early signs of having osteoporosis. Guess I will be taking a drug the rest of my life now that I am an eunuch.

Bobbie,
I'm sorry to hear that the test came back positive for the bone scan. Some good may come out of this because it was detected it early before any problems arose from it. With the treatment now, you should have little to worry about as long as you are monitored from now on.
This also raises my concerns for my bone integrity lately. I have been seeing two doctors for the past few years now. One who has given me HRT, and a regular primary care physician. I posed the question to both if I should get a bone scan about two years ago. My HRT doctor feels that as long as I'm one hormones, (well withing the normale female ranges according to all the blood tests) there should be little concern for osteoporosis. I also asked my regular doc the same question, but I don't think he knows much in this area and told me me he would check with some other doctors. No reply from the regular physician as of yet.
The reason I am questioning wether to get a bone scan now is from an injury I suffered recently to my lower back at work. I have been placed on sick leave until they find out what is wrong.
Because my job involves a good bit of physiscal labor I've always had sore muscles and the like from this type of work. Needless to say my job has become a little harder since some of the physical female changes. But this injury Is much worse than I've ever felt before. Preliminary Xrays came back abnormal with signs of arthrisis to the effected area. The doctor won't know more until he reviews the MRI I had taken today.
I'll keep everyone posted as to what the results of this latest tests shows.

Re: Osteoporosis
I asked my doctor for the bone scan mostly to get a baseline so I can see if things change down the road. Good that I did get it so soon as an eunuch.

Re: Osteoporosis
Bobbie,
clip....
Just maybe you should see if you could find a new job that doesn't require as much physiscal labor. One of my friends had to change from being a House Framer to a Clerical type of job because he could not hold a hammer anymore.
He was a contractor, and he makes more money now than when he was framing, (he was an honest contractor - his help made more than he was making)
