Speaking of infections,

Anti-biotics are not always effective.

There are strains of bacteria that are resistant to anti-biotics. IF your anti-biotic does not seem to be doing the trick, then you need to get a broader spectrum anti-biotic.

You may even need to be in a hospital for a time under I.V. anti-biotic therapy.

Remember, oral anti-biotics are the least efficient, intramuscularly injected anti-biotics are better, much better, but the only thing that may save your life should you develop sepsis or [shudder] GANGRENE, is I.V. anti-biotics. Sepsis can destroy internal organs, cause pericarditis and heart vegitations, that is IF you survive it.

If you drain from your incision, feel weak and tired, run a temperature, have sweats that come and go or smell bad [down there] or any combination of the above, get thyself to an E.R. and tell them the TRUTH!

GET HELP.

The life that they save, may be yours...

Uncle Flo (imported) wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2005 6:56 am Good point. Age is not the determining factor in competence.

At least chronological age is not a factor. One of my grandmothers lived to 104 years. Her mind was sharper at that age than a lot o' people's in their 60s. Her body just finally gave up. I recall her mother (my great-grandmother) at 110 years from my childhood, as well as my grandmother's sister at 108 years. Same thing. That part of my lineage seems to go on forever. Winston Churchhill, who was recently declared by Britons to be the greatest Brit in modern history, was over 65 years when he led Britain through WWII. His career lasted longer than most of us can dream, as he had been 1st Lord of the Admiralty during WWI.

I'm thankful that I still seem to have most of my faculties - and health - at 61 years. I recall when I commenced receiving testosterone injections about 6 years ago that I was told that one of the side effects was improved short-term memory. The doc was so correct.

OTOH, biological ageing is a factor. And being an MD and a surgeon is likely more subject to the exigencies of critical thought and physical agility than many other professions. If they've lost their skill, they have. That's all there is to it.

The same's true at the other end of the age spectrum. The veterinarian's assistant that removed my testicles was only 24 y.o. at the time, but very mature and skilled. The procedure was carried out perfectly and in an absolutely sterile theatre. I know another middle-aged guy whose testicles were removed proficiently by a 21 y.o. kid. Pitt became PM of Britain at age 23 years.

Hi,

I am seeing Dr Kimmel next month for the procedure as was wondering how long after surgery before you can start exercising again. Also, how long did most of you take antibiotics and what kind?

Sarah

Hi Sarah-

I would ask Dr Kimmel on the exercise - I know I was supposed to be off my feet for two weeks after both surgeries (bi-lateral orchi Sept 2004, and scrotal removal April 2005). I was on Cipro for 4 days and then cephalexin (sp?) as a backup for 15 days per his prescriptions the first time, and ceph for 20 days this time around. Be certain to let him know when he asks if you have any allergies as he may need to prescribe an alternative antibiotic.

Best wishes, and good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Well, Sherry's page (http://www.geocities.com/sherrylanina/C ... ndWho.html) may be of some help.

Personally, If I was a practicing physician I'd do it. It has the potential to ruin a doctor's practice, however.

Maybe with a court order... know any judges?

If you wanna read my account of the surgical route, check out the thread "castration diary" in the biographies section. Considering about everything that could possibly have gone wrong did, it's a decent rundown...

Ummm ... did you read where he is an Osteopath, not a MD as Kimmel is? Did you read where is a Family Practicioner, not a Urologist as Kimmel is? And why would age be an issue of he truly looked like the young man in the picture? I hope you are not in the detective business. This is obviously Kimmel's son, or just a coincidence.
