I had my procedure done in January last year and felt the surgery went well. Any problems that I had afterwards (a slight infection), I can only blame myself for.
I spoke with Dr Kimmel several times before I made the trip to Philly. He was, at that time, very well spoken, knowledegable, and very self assuring. My first reaction when I met him was he was getting on in years. I didn't let that bother me because after the brief talk we had I felt reassured he was very competent.
Since that time I've read many replies from folks here who were having a lot problems after their surgery. Perhaps Paolo is correct in saying it may be time for him to retire? The last time I met with Dr Kimmel was in September when a friend had the procedure done. To my knowledge my friend hasn't had any problems with the surgery.
I would still recommend him, though I might advise anyone thinking of going to him in the future to read all the reports and weigh their dicision carefully.

For me I wish not to have the skin which hangs my penis below when it is soft
I wonder or the skin is cut to allow that

I went to Dr Kimmel on april 8th and I had both the castration and the scrotum removed. Dr kimmel recomends this as the healing of the second surgery is the same length of time as the first and both together are only slightly longer than justy one. Yes there is more trauma but I think it is worth not having to go through the healing process all over again.
on a side note: I had very little swelling due to there being no place for it to collect.

Thanks for sharing this.
This isn't a good sign.
While Dr. Kimmell has been an important assett to the Community in taking over for Spector, we need to know things like this. I have been making notes from postings on the Board and from IM conversations I have had with others.
And I am beginning to worry.
I am debating, and have mentioned it to The Sister, as to whether a separate thread with a count and issues is needed or not. What I am finding seems to have happened within the last calendar year.
While I don't know Kimmell's age, or any of his personal history, age related slip-ups can often begin suddenly and intensify rapidly. That is one of the reasons that my own beloved GP stopped practicing and retired. In no way do I want to offend the Doctor, nor encourage back alley castrations.
But - there's that word again - we do need to be aware of such. Information in today's world is very easy to come by. So is misinformation.
Some comment. It seems that if a man is serious about wanting a castration and especially if his wife agrees, why then not go to your family physician and discuss the situation. If a doctor will recommend the castration, then can it not be done within limits of the law? And if the family doctor can not or will not do it himself, could he not recommend a surgeon that would be accomodating? From reading the many comments on the board, I see Kimmel and Spector mentioned. Surely there are many more willing to do this type work? Just curious. Thanks.
