I have another PDF from about 1924 that show step by step various penile operations, including circumcision to extirpatation of the penis. It includes various drawings. Each section, more and more is removed. On the cover is a photograph of the remains of a shrunken glans penis that was removed by a jealous woman.

I don't know where this came from. I don't know if anyone is interested or not. Or, how to post it somewhere.

Thanks to Slammer for posting the PDF I sent him. This is essentially a photocopy of several pages of the 1886 book, based on a series of lectures on "Insanity and its Treatment". The excerpt provided covers "The Insanity of Pubescence" and the horrors of "Habitual Masturbation".

On the latter: "The habitual masturbator is thought incurable. Thin and sickly-looking, he seems ever on the verge of consumption...his appearance is always a discredit to those who have to care for him." The author goes into a dissertation on the various mechanical, surgical (including clitorectomy for females), and chemical means of trying to eliminate the nasty habit, but in the end admits that it's almost impossible to erase, and the determined masturbator will usually find a means to continue the behavior. And then:

"Nothing but amputation will stop it. I saw in the case of two chronic male patients, the experiment tried of amputating their organs, and masturbation stopped." ... (Doh! hard to imagine a guy masturbating without a penis!)

But wait! There's an even better way!

"Dr. T. Batty Tuke tells us that amputation of the glans alone was attended with the very best results. In an examination of 455 cases admitted into the ... Asylum, all save two recovered rapidly and perfectly after the glans was removed using the Eames Guillotine method. '... most cases recover within two months without complications...' My own experience confirms this."

I can imagine. They chop off the end of your cock, probably with the threat "if we catch you masturbating again we'll chop off the rest." That would certainly stop most guys from masturbating. Plus see my observation, below, re. how much was amputated.

"After considerable experience, I found the Eames Guillotine method of removing the glans penis to be attended with the very best result, successful in the majority of cases. The operation is performed by compressing the body of the penis against the trestle with one hand, cutting off the glans with one sweep of the bistoury, held at a slight angle against the fence. The remainder of the wound is brought together, free drainage being provided for, and therefore it is not sutured. All this ... takes from half a minute to one minute. Anesthetic is not needed, the operation being done quickly."

The next page shows a drawing of the "trestle" on which the doomed penis rests, with a half-circle cutout in the vertical "fence" that the penis passes through. The blade is brought down through the shaft of the penis, guided by the fence. The next drawing shows a side view of a penis on this mini-guillotine, with the blade just touching the upper skin of the shaft, perhaps a half-inch (1 cm) behind the glans.

Note that the good doctor is, according to this drawing, cutting off more than the glans. The blade is cutting through least 2 cm of corpora cavernosa and more importantly, the very sensitive underside of the penile shaft, just behind the glans, is amputated along with the glans. This is the part of the shaft that in my experience is normally the 'trigger' to ejaculation. No wonder the victims stopped masturbating. It might be difficult or impossible to ejaculate with that much missing.

Cutting through the corpora cavernosa (two main shafts of the penis that give it rigidity when erect) including veins and arteries - without suturing after the amputation - must be a godawful bloody affair. No wonder it took months to heal.

In my opinion the doctor is a closet sexual sadist and pervert who finally found a "medically validated" excuse to do what he always wanted to do: chop off penises. This "operation" was performed hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times on helpless and mentally disturbed men, and boys - many undoubtedly teenagers. A lot of real, and disturbing, stories there.

Ah yes, I imagine bleeding to death after having one's cock sliced off would certainly stop the poor sod from masturbating. I rarely...no wait, NEVER see a corpse masturbating, so there's the proof. One has to wonder if the folks of the 1800s and early 1900s really saw masturbation (or Onanism as it was sometimes called, after the biblical character Onan) as a real problem? Oh well. It sounds like the "cure" was worse than the affliction. And further, people thought to be insane and locked up might not have many pleasures in life, so what could be more insane than removing that one last bit of pleasure, the ability to relieve one's self?

I agree, I think this "doctor" found a way to hide his sadistic desire to cut off other peoples tender bits by claiming it was a "cure."
