Well, we've heard from the legalists, the holier-than-thou's, but I for one think it's time to do what this forum is here for, to comment on the story.

Bravo. Slammr!!!!!

As most archive regulars know, I have not been very active posting lately, I am simply too busy; but that does not mean I have been totally absent. I check on the newest stories, the fora, etc every so often. When I saw a new story by Slammr I had to check it out, and was I ever glad I did!

My attraction to this story has nothing to do with eroticism, castration, or anything of the sort. Slammr is telling us a story that needs to be told. Let's just read it and heed the message, ok guys?

As a young teen I was a pretty messed-up guy, but fortunately there were people there for me. We all dont have that luxury, and we need to have compassion for those who are left to deal with the system, and believe me, I am well aware that the system leaves a lot to be desired.

Again, I say, BRAVO, SLAMMR! Tell your story, and be assured that you have one reader who is sitting on the edge of his seat waiting for the next installment, and I don't give a flip whether there is another castration any time is this millenium, because that's not what this story is about, is it?

Whenever I see or hear of stories like this one, I have two basic reactions. First I cry a lot, and then I think of that popular old expression, and I mean this folks: "There, but for the grace of God, go I."

Yes, Charlie, this story is about the kids and what our present day system does to them. I was Jon in this story, guilty, at a young age of his crime, only my offense occurred in the 1950’s rather than today. If I had committed it in 2003, I would have likely been given a mandatory sentence to an adult prison. Although, there have been things that I’ve done since, of which I’m not proud, how much worse might I have turned out if I’d been sentenced to prison and had been raped and tortured- and the much of the torture which I’ve described in this story comes from reports which I’ve received from people who have either been in prison or have worked in prisons.

Terry in the story was also as I described him. He was the class president. He had never done anything similar. He shocked me that night when he asked me to let him go along. The last I heard he was a highly successful architect, owned his own firm, and was a deacon in his church. He’s probably a millionaire by now. What if, for one youthful transgression, he’d been sentenced to prison? How would he have turned out, after being raped in prison? The kid in the picture, which I’ve alluded to be that of Terry, reminds me of him. I doubt seriously that Terry would have made it through prison without having been assaulted.

We spent the night it the Fort Worth city jail. The cops scared the hell out of us, then released us to our parents the next day, which, ironically, was Christmas Eve. Records of our arrest were expunged. Realizing how lucky I was, I sympathize with youthful offenders. I hope Terry does, too. Certainly, some of them could not be safely released into society, but placing them in adult prisons is not the answer.

I was a victim of a crime of robbery, assault, burglary, kidnapping, and car theft in 2000; so I don’t have much sympathy for criminals. It is better for society that many of them are in prison. The three, who attacked me, are serving prison sentences in Oregon. Two should be released next year, but the one who struck me over the head with a steel bar will be there for several years yet. Even in his case, however, the sentence probably wasn’t equitable. He was twenty-one years old and strongly influenced by the leader, a thirty-six year old. Because he’s the one who wielded the bar, he received an eighty month sentence, whereas the person who told him to do it, will be released after about four years. Actually, it never went to trial. They all accepted plea agreements.

At least, they were all adults. There was an article in the paper here in Oregon about a sixteen year-old boy who had received a seventy month mandatory sentence (means no time off for good behavior-he’ll have to serve the entire seventy months) for getting his fourteen year-old girl friend pregnant. Neither the girl or her mother wanted him prosecuted, but he went to prison, anyway. If he had been a few months closer to her in age, it wouldn’t have been a crime. Those few months, even though he was underage himself, cost him seventy months in prison. Where’s the justice in his case? Harris in the story was modeled after him.

Although the prisons in Oregon are probably better than those in Texas, where the conditions are deplorable, one of my correspondents, who entered a California prison at a young age was raped there. His prison experience has caused him unimaginable torment.

I plan to re-write this story. I know much more now that I did before I started it, and there are many things that I would like to change. I’ll complete it as I’ve begun it, however, because I feel an obligation to those who have read the first parts; besides, it’s the first long story (beyond about 20 pages) that I’ve written, so, it’s good practice. What you’re getting here however, is a rough draft of the eventual story. Perhaps I should have completed it first before posting it, but I’ve gained much from some of the people who have written me about this story.

Although I haven't been asked to remove the pictures, I'm aware of many complaints about them which have been made to the management of the Archive. Rather than cause problems for EA, I've chosen to remove them. No one made me; it was my choice; so please don't complain to Paolo. I'm grateful to him for the effort that he puts into this Archive.

For those who might be concerned, the person posed as Terry is over eighteen years-old, as are all the models I used. Isn't it strange, though; it's legal to sentence a boy to death in Texas for a crime he committed when he was seventeen years-old, but it is considered harmful to that boy for him to pose with a hard-on

REALLY great news about Alex and Derek, although I am not sure given my experience with youth prisons that it will be clear sailing for them. Nevertheless it has got to be a step in the right direction.

This is really getting off topic, but you seem to be more "tuned in" than I am, so I have to ask: do you have any news about Andy Williams that might not have found its way to the media?

Last I heard he was somewhat settled in a youth facility, and there was very little hope of anything changing any time soon.

Andy's case caused very mixed feelings for me. Fact: he killed, and he should be held accountable for that. Fact: he was very depressed and his depression was recognized by a number of people, but no one was held accountable for that. Fuzzy fact: his mother, who now appears to be the caring parent, was off on her own clear across the country as Andy dealt with all his problems alone. Fuzzy fact: His father was very stoic, stating for the media how proud of his son he was for having admitted his sins and dealt with them head-on. Now the man has become invisible again.

Question: Did anyone, except a girl friend in Maryland who could do nothing, care a flip for this boy? Does anyone care?

Ok, sorry, I'm off my soapbox again. I just cannot help thinking, if I had grown up in the late 90's instead of the mid 50's, I might very well be today where Andy Williams and Alex and Derek are right now. Again I have to say it: There, but for the grace of God, go I.

I still will not change my avatar because I was taught at a very early age, "honor they father and thy mother." Maybe, just maybe, that's what we're missing today: those basic principles????
