thanks guys.
i really appreciate the thoughts and prayers. the worst is behind me at this point. on friday i learned that it is possible to walk even though the muscle response below the knee hasn't returned. well, that's not exactly true -- it's the conscious muscle response that hasn't returned yet. my right leg does what it wants from the knee down -- there's a whole range of twitches, jerks, and jumps that it demonstrates at various times.
with a sure-step ankle brace strapped on i can now manage to stand and do a nifty boris karloff impression. what passes for a walking gait really resembles the karloff shuffle from the movie "the walking dead."
i really missed you guys -- the biggest problem for me during rehab was not having access to a computer and the inernet. please be assured that i am recovering nicely and as soon as time permits i will be back to writing and posting.
david
Thank you for the update, and I do indeed look forward to reading more from you.

David,
I have been off the board for a little while and missed the origin of this post. Like everyone else, I am sorry to hear of your illness and stroke, but am glad to see that you are so positive about your recovery.
People can, and do, recover from strokes. My father suffered at least 8 strokes before he died (aged 78) and on at least one occasion was paralysed down one side but managed to regain almost all of the movements. His one regret was that his hand writing deteriorated from being a beautiful script to merely elegant! So I hope that you are similarly blessed.
Please do consider yourself and take time to recover, but let your friends here know how you are progressing from time to time.
LOL

I, too, wish to extend my best wishes. You are one of the best authors on the archive.

Gosh David,
Your inner strenght is inspiring. No wonder your writing is so powerful. You have a great sense of humor, and with all the trials you have been going through of late you just can't wait to get back to your stories. I guess that is the real reason why boards like this is so important. It really gives a community to people who read and write, so no matter what we go through at times the characters are waiting for the story to go on. Perhaps you could get someone to mail hardcopies of stories to you if you are ever apart from your computer again, and write your stories longhand and mail them to someone you trust who can type them for you and e-mail them in. Anyway get, and stay healthy!

David--
I had a very close relative that had kidney issues and went through similar things. I wish you and your family well as you deal with this, hopefully, short setback.

I've just picked up this thread & I think that more or less everything's been said that should be said by those before me. I'll therefore just add my personal wishes to Androboy for him to be restored to full health, & writing, soon!
