As for Truman not taking this garbage from Saddam. I'd agree with that, but the world was a much different place then too.
This is true, but as you have alluded, the world goes on.
This could be a paridigm shift and we could be a witness to the beginning of a movement to make the world a safer place in which to live by the use of force. This is the principle that totalitarian regimes of the past were built upon. Then, if a corrupt leader gets hold of power, the population under his dominion suffers horribly.
Consider the "Patriot Act" To me it is a law that lets the Government just come and pick you up and haul you off if you get too far out of line. We even have Alan Derchowitz laying down scenerios for the police to use torture and justifying it by the incredible claim that is has always went on.
Of course there is a sentiment that Israel is the root cause of all of the world's problems, but that is just not a realistic viewpoint.

You also have to think that the National Rifle Association is really great because they protect the constitution, but you have to hate the ACLU because they do the same thing.
Losethem, the ACLU was approached to defend a group of abortion protestors and as you might have imagined, they refused to take the case. But there is more here than meets the eye. The question of what these people were accused of doing is immaterial to the point that I am about to make.
These people were prosecuted under the RICO statutes that dealt with organized crime. Their property was confiscated, along with their bank accounts and so forth. Likewise, the government was poised to bring a similar action against a group of war protestors.
To make a long story short, the Supreme Court threw out the conviction of the abortion protestors, thus effectively squelshing the war protestor action.
The ACLU is not a "protector" of Civil Liberties as they claim to be. They are instead just another special interest group. Otherwise, they would defend anybody's Civil Liberties, not just those of people who were liberals.
But the kicker is, I have heard that they defended the rights of the KKK to march through downtown Skokie, IL....a predominately Jewish community. Go figure...
I think that I still prefer the anti-abortion folk to the KKK and American Nazis. Appearently, they do not.
As for the NRA, I believe in the right to own a gun. The NRA usually goes overboard, but then so do the gun-control folks.
I am sure that we do not need the right to possess hand-held stinger anti-aircraft missles. Where do you draw the line? Right in front of my gun safe where I keep all of my converted semi-automatic assault rifles, that's where.
Never the less, If you are a war protestor, OR an abortion protestor, you still have a Constitutional right to protest whatever it is that is bothering you. That IS America.
But...If the government ever goes to use the "Patriot Act" in the prosecution of ordinary crime...well...
I'll put it this way. If and when that happens, the government of America will be b

ehaving just like Nazi Germany did just prior to WWII.
...for I have seen the enemy, and he is us...
mykeaz,
Ya'll can bitch and whine all you want about an American celeb. being ashamed of our president. That is what America is about. We scream when things suck, and we scream when things are great. To be honest, there ain't that many country's out there that will allow it. Like it or not, We have the right to voice our opinions. it may not have been the wisest move, but oh well. Pesonally, I think Dubya's a fool for wanting to to go to war with Iraq. Sad part is,
I don't see an alternative. We can't stop him from distroying all the good will we've built up over the years.
Of course you are ABSOLUTELY right. Except, I am not sure that "W" wants to go to war. It is again as you say, there just is no other alternative when dealing with Saddam in the light of recent world events. One thing for sure, nobody will be calling America a "paper tiger" after Saddam gets his.
And, it is as you say.
If I want to say that that Ho BITCH in the DICKsie Chickens needs to have a permant chastity belt welded in place, a huge dildoe gag locked in her pie hole and her return ticket to America cancelled, it is my right.
I say, FUCK them and the GOD-DAMMED pig that they rode on across the Mason-Dixon line!
They should be chained to a bed somewhere in BIll Clinton's bedroom, the little WHORES! That is, if the chastity belt thing cannot be arranged. They either need to be fucked a lot more or a lot less, I have not made my mind up yet. Either way, I would be willing to participate to fulfill their great need. After all, if they should screw Bill Cliniton to death then that is assassination of a former U.S. President. NO doubt, though, the man would die with a smile on his face!
I guess it is possibly a case of "...when you are in Europe, do as the Europeans do..." {paraphrased from the saying "...when you are in Rome...etc."} Of course, that is why my kind advice to them is to stay in Europe. When these HO babes come home they just might end up LITERALLY with egg on their face...and ROTTEN egg at that!
Maybe they said what they said just to keep from getting egged in London. Well, if so they are just postponing the enevitable.
And that, my friends, is MY opinion that I am entitled to by the U.S. Constitution!

A-1
