I'm glad to be back, which seems appropriate at this time with this story because this month I'm celebrating the 50th anniversary of gaining my university degree in ancient history, when my thesis involved the 1st century A.D. (I prefer the old time abbreviation)!
I've now added a bit more to the quoted introduction, which is reproduced at the beginning of chapter 5 of the new 'The Traitor's Son' (be warned of about 250 chapters, which so as not to overload the board's work or reader's minds will be posted weekly in >15,000 word segments):-

Some early scenes are quite brutal, reflecting the cruelty of life for some slaves in ancient Rome, which was entirely dependent on who their owners were and what was their assigned work. It has to be admitted, though, that if slaves were fortunate with their owners and work, their lives could be much better than most Roman citizens, many of whom lived in abject poverty.
The story involves many minors, which is controversial to say the least in the modern world, but the truth is that there were many slave children in the ancient world, and many of them were abused and prostituted quite publicly and lawfully. There were many legal child brothels around, catering for all tastes, so all scenes in this tale are based on fact.
I can assure readers, though, that, despite the various sufferings most of the young heroes in the story have to endure, the righteous eventually survive and prosper whilst the baddies ultimately receive their due comeuppances, but you will have to follow this long story to the end to discover what all their futures hold.
A ‘dramatis personae’ has been
story, despite the long journey to conclusion, and this will be updated regularly as the saga progresses.
