A couple years ago, I was clearing brush and a wild rose thorn penetrated my glove, right into the side of my index finger. I dug it out, cleaned it up, and ever since, I have a callous build up there that I have to carve off once a month.

Granted, not the same scale as this topic, but you get the idea!
