The WPATH conference has had a full session devoted to each chapter of the new Standards of Care. The eunuch chapter was very well received. The questions and comments afterwards were all (with a single exception) very positive. The exception questioned use of the word "eunuch," but couldn't suggest a better word. Several people stayed afterwards to talk about the chapter. Again, all positive.

The Non-Binary chapter was also well received, though I had nothing to do with it or with their presentation. It may prove very useful to some here. The Intersex chapter took a lot of heat, however.

I have noticed a lot of the Twitter backlash from the usual bigot types has been hinged specifically on the word 'eunuch' itself; and that nastly media flurry in the UK a while back was wrapped up in what I suppose one might call the 'politics of late orientalism' in Britain. I started out not being very positive about the word (partly because it is not that obvious how it should be pronounced), but I think over time it becomes very obvious how destigmatisation isn't successful till the entire learning perspective of the people has changed. Finding a new word for PR purposes is a bit 'pick me', and writes-off forebears rather than rights historic wrongs of marginalisation.

On the PR question, I think the WPATH SoC v.8 is a great first step towards being more visible/mainstreamed. In the future it will be interesting to see if our energies can be freed up to put more cultural projects into the world to change perceptions.

My health is on the floor at the moment. But when I'm fixed-up I intend to see what my third sector and Arts commissioning background can achieve in this sphere.

It was a lot of hard work, and after five years, I'm glad it's come to a conclusion, for now. I'm looking forward to having that time back. Still, if these standards help even one person, I'm glad to have undertaken the task to ensure they have a more defined and SAFER path than I did when I sought these interventions for my body.

We had a lot of pushback both publicly and behind the scenes. When I spoke at the USPATH conference in Washington, DC back in 2019, the question was asked by a transwoman if "I felt privileged..."

While inside my head I was thinking, "You insufferable bitch!", I answered calmly, "Yes, but only insofar as there does not exist a realistic way for a eunuch to undergo a 1-year real life test, unless the outcome is to become asexual hormonally, and that makes the path easier than it does for people who are transmen or transwomen. However, the fundamental underlying need is the same and has the same early age onset transmen and transwomen experience."

I'm not sure if that was my exact answer, but it was words to that effect.

There were A LOT of headwinds to getting the eunuch chapter adopted and over the finish line both from outside the process, and directly inside by people very high up at WPATH. A lot of that was kept out of here to prevent people from getting more frustrated at how long the process took.

What you've said has in no way begged for sainthood... but here it is anyway. Utmost gratitude and respect for what you've achieved. On other channels I have had correspondance with folk who are heartened by the development to the extent there is no exageration in my expression I feel the news has saved lives.
