For the record, Sierra No. 3 is the train from the following films (and many more):
High Noon (1952)
The Great Race (1966)
Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (1979)
Back to the Future III (1989)
Unforgiven (1992)
TV Shows:
The Lone Ranger (1956)
Rawhide (1959)
Lassie (1961)
Petticoat Junction (1963)
Gunsmoke (1971)
Bonanza (1972)
Little House on the Prairie (1975)
Father Murphy (1983)
The A-Team (1984)
The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr. (1993)
It's fallen out of favor with Hollywood since they've started going any place that will give them a freebie, and filming less in California. The train can be seen at Railtown 1897, a California State Park.

I especially liked the modified version of the engine from the movie "Back to the Future III".

That one was not Sierra No. 3. Remember, in the movie, the train that went over the cliff was that train, at the end of the movie, the train with the folding wheels was a different one. I'm guessing some sort of early CGI, perhaps a train from another railroad was used to stand in for that particular scene.

In the first video, the canyon the train crashes in actually exists, though the track was VERY short and purpose built by the film crew, aka as a large scale model. No trains were harmed during filming this scene. You can drive through the same ravine on California State route 120 (the route from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park), the location of the filming was roughly near the bluish green spot in the middle of the map the highway goes across further downstream:

Hill Valley, 1885 was in approximately the location of the disturbed/bare ground on the right side of this map, the sets no longer exist due to a wildfire several years ago, but you can see the train tracks adjacent:

Was filmed on the curve in the tracks at this location next to the state highway. The building in the background was an authentic old 1800's building, and was visible from the highway, but it also burned in the wildfire.

Michael J. Fox Nearly Died on the Set of Back to the Future - III
Fox volunteered to do one of the close-up scenes while the stunt performers did the wide shots. During one of these close-up takes, Fox was accidentally hanged long enough for him to lose consciousness. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured by the stunt gone wrong, but you can still see the real struggle in the scene when watching the movie.
