Thx. I still have my old Silverado parked next to the house. I wonder if I could convert it to steam with cylinder on bed like the boat? To paraphrase Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time," you'll know it is me when I'm coming thru your town.

Maybe the block even then it's doubt full as a lot of energy would be wasted because a steam piston engine usually has two or more different cylinder sizes to use the expanded steam from on to the other for power. They go from a small bore high pressure piston exhausting to a larger low pressure one and so on. Even the valving would need changing to act like a two stroke plus the piston on a steam engine gets hp steam let in at the tdc then as it reachs the end of the stroke exhausts the spent steam then a shuttle valve opens and lets fresh hp steam in on the back side of the piston for another power stroke pushing the piston up. Maybe joing two different displacement four bangers on a common crank would work with the small bore being the hp side and bigger bore for the lp side.

I have seen UP 4014 in person at St. Paul. There is a similar locomotive at the Lake Superior Railroad museum. It is from the DMIR fleet. It is the same configuration as UP 4014 but is even more powerful although 5 feet shorter. --FLO--

I was watching the history of the Queen Mary on the TV yesterday.

Nice Ship... Probably on the Drawing board in the 1920's but a real innovation for its time.

The oil powered steam turbines could get the thing up to 30 or more Knots winning her the Blue Ribband for the fastest Atlantic crossing.

Commandeered for the war effort she and her sister ship the Queen Elizabeth became troop carriers for the 2nd World war.

Once these ships left port they were on their own as there was nothing that could keep up with them and that included most of the allied battle ships.

Tens of thousands of US troops crossed the Atlantic Owe their lives to those fantastic turbines these ships were fitted with.

I just thought I would big it up a bit for the boring looking turbine.

It is good that those nice folks in the States decided that this was that was too good a ship to turn into beer tins and have given it a bit of space at Long Beach.

I wonder if I could retrofit my pickup with one in the bed? The big exhaust stacks would be the envy of some of the guys running around here in their tarted up and shiny Dodge handbags for men.

Sure but remember, that the steam piston is double acting and loses steam. It takes a lot of water to operate.

Put condenser there? Doble could do it - so can you ;-)
