A five month course the least of your concerns would be bone loss. It takes much longer than that for this side effect to become an issue. However, liver damage is a much greater risk possibility. Androcur is toxic to the liver, period. You can try to limit damage, by using zero alcohol, and taking milk thistle. But, 5-months you're right on the edge of the risk. Anything over 6-months is considered inadvisable. There is a reason this drug is not FDA approved.

The Vitamin D should be D3, the natural form of D, to permit better absorption and utilization.

Also combine taking magnesium with calcium for best absorption and utilization.

In addition to checking my T level I had a liver function test three weeks after starting Androcur, and the results showed that my liver function had actually improved slightly compared to my previous test in January. No doubt helped by not drinking any alcohol.

I appreciate that three weeks probably isn’t long enough for damage to occur (though signs of stress could show up - which my GP was keen to check for), so it’ll be very interesting what the results are when I have my next blood test at the beginning of June.

You may want to start at 150mg a day for first ten days for best effect. The studies that showed liver damage were elderly men taking 800mg so you should be well within safety limits.

The USDA is very conservative, which can be a good thing. Even if the risk is low, the argument is that the negative consequences can be severe, so if there are substitutes that accomplish the same objective but without liver toxicity then they'll only allow those to be prescribed. It's a sensible and responsible position to take. Those of us who use the drug anyway know we are accepting some risk. I'm guessing that if liver damage was a frequent occurrence with Androcur we'd be hearing a lot about it on this site.

Probably best treated a bit like paracetamol…

A couple of pills will cure your headache, but the entire packet will very likely cure all your problems - permanently!

The official guide says 100mg so I think I'll stick with that!

Pills are now ordered! 😀dong:

I've been reading research papers that seem to show that the effective dose to maintain chemical castration can be much lower than 50 mg/day. I believe I've read some comments to this effect.

Yes, I understand about the higher initial does. As a matter of fact I just took my last 100mg dose (did 15 days) and am dropping to 50 mg starting tomorrow. I'll stay on that dose for a month or two and then perhaps try 25mg/day. I can always raise the dose if that fails to maintain the castrated state.

Androcur needs to build a depot level in the body, so you have to frontload with 100+mg/d and after 14 days you can go down to 50mg.

If you are using too low amount at the beginning, it will take a long time for reaching low level testo.

I didn't mention it here, but I have a complete loss of erections already and much lower libido, so it's definitely working. I'll follow the recommended drop to 50 mg for now.

Do you have signs of low T like night sweat or no more morning wood for any days? If not, could be 100mg wasn't not really high enough frontload dosage.

If not, use 100mg up to you feel that it is really working!
