So I booked an appointment at the hospital. In ten days time I hope to have a permanently numbed penis. The normal operation is supposed to spare some nerves but I'll see if I can convince them to sever them all. Or alternatively hopefully I'll get fully numbed as a side effect. Even mostly numb would be desirable, especially since it is only going to cost $280.

Thanks guys.
I admit I'm having some second thoughts though. Not about getting a numb penis but rather a) the high rate of complications b) the idea of surgery (no matter how minor) in a country like China.
In terms of complications, I've been reading papers and about 4 percent of patients get chronic pain and another 4 percent get chronic tingling sensations. I'm really not sure that is very good odds at all and with my goal being to take my mind off of sensations from my genitals it seems like it would be a particularly cruel turn of events to have pain or tingling that brings constant focus to the genitals. As someone who lives quite pain free I'm very aware of how lucky I am.
And in China I have no idea if the local anesthetic will actually be some sub-standard stuff or whether they are really spending money to keep things properly sterile. Also I expect that chance of infection is generally higher in those hot, dirty Asian cities.
However, like most of the crazy stuff I've done usually the momentum is inevitable once I get an obsession. So I probably will go through with it but won't really know until I'm there.

Had a long dream last night about going to the hospital in China and trying to find the urology department for my dorsal neurectomy. It wasn't really much of an anxiety dream (I was happy in it) but was still one of those dreams where you keep trying to achieve something that seems elusive. However, in my dream I did find the right department and my name was on the list of appointments. The nurse came to examine me and said that the operation would be good for me, but even better "if I had those things removed" pointing to my testicles.
Anyway, heading to China tomorrow. Looks like Typhoon season is in full swing and I'll be there when Typhoon Haima makes landfall.
I'm still very nervous about the side effects of this surgery. I read a Korean doctor's report where he had done over 1000 dorsal neurectomies with an 89% success rate. The other 11% had chronic pain in the glans when checked four months after the operation! He also said that he refused to perform the operation on Caucasians and Black people because he found the complications increase with larger penises. (Koreans are known for having the world's smallest penises...)
Perhaps more importantly I'm concerned about the impact of the years of scarring in my penis. Most recently I injected phenol into my penis which caused several tough lumps. Previously I've done over fifteen years of frequent banding with elastrators. And I used to have a dozen of pearls inserted in my foreskin as a body mod. So lots of scarring that might complicate the procedure. In fact my cock cannot go flaccid anymore after the phenol injection ... It caused a permanent semi erection.

So I've arrived in China and have my appointment scheduled for the first thing in the morning (8:30 China time of course). They want to do initial consultation then said they can do the operation the same day. They will give me a "guide" who is usually a pretty nurse whose job it is to sell the services and make sure you don't back out. Apparently they can use high pressure sales tactics. That shouldn't be a problem for me except I'm worried they might try to jack up the price when they see I'm an American... It is supposed to be a $400 procedure.
I also have refrained from orgasming for past two weeks so I'm incredibly horny. Usually i orgasm twice a day so I'm really pent up. I figured it would be a good experiment to test how numb I am afterwards if it prevents me from orgasming when I'm this horny.
I'm going to ask the surgeon to cut all the nerves (usually they spare two) but it really depends on how good the English of the guide is ... I don't want to trust negotiation of a surgical procedure to Google translate! Even getting most of the nerves cut seems like it would be a positive.

Maybe you'd better find a detailed picture and point out the nerves?!

Okay, so the consultation was a total bust. I'm heading back to my hotel as I write this.
I was totally prepared to go through with it. I got up bright and early and had a great breakfast buffet at the hotel. I prepared well. I had printouts of their website in original Chinese plus in translated English, with all the important parts circled in pen. I had diagrams of the nerves in the penis. I had directions to the hospital and directions back to the hotel to aid taxi drivers. I packed extra battery for my cell phone, snacks and water. I had a jacket and umbrella because we're on the edge of a typhoon and it is pouring rain.
I got to the hospital right when it opened at 8am and I have to say that calling it a hospital was a big stretch. The main lobby was basically a bunch of cashiers like a bank. There was a customer information table right by the door just as the instructions for my appointment said there would be. It was staffed by two hot young ladies that were dressed like flight attendants. The whole place gave of a weird vibe, but the girls looked approachable.
Unfortunately they could not speak English at all. And no one else in the clinic did either, not even the doctors. I found this surprising because I'm in Shenzhen a lot and it is a very westernized city that borders Hong Kong. Plus I'd assume that doctors at least would have had some English education...
Using Google translate I was able to convey that I wanted consultation in the urology department. This is when things started getting sketchy... One of the girls took me outside to a back alley to a crappier building. If you've traveled in China you know what their alleys look and smell like. Not a good sign.
But it was the urology department so she passed me to a guide but she didn't understand English so she brought a third girl over who said she knew a little but really didn't.
All three accompanied me to a doctors office to meet with the doctor. The really disconcerting thing was that even with the print out of their web site that actually had a picture of the same doctor on it he seemed really confused and kept reading it over and over. Eventually I got some indication he understood. Through Google translate he explained he'd like to give an expert interview and it was really funny having the girls blush and giggle when they had to relate details of my penis and desire for it to be numbed. They giggled uncontrollably when I said I was so sensitive I ejaculate before I even put my penis in a vagina. (I was making this up as building my case that I needed the surgery.)
But the conversation really, really struggled. Eventually with Google translate i said "maybe this is too difficult if we cannot speak the same language". They immediately agreed and showed me out.
On the way out I saw some pretty scary stuff ... People under various types of operations (they were plain to see as the operating rooms had glass walls with no privacy curtains.)
Anyway, this is a very sketchy place. This is the same place where they have fake MRI machines as described in the vice article, and owned by same man that operates a cancer hospital in town that promises to cure any cancer but provides sham treatment. Add to that their total inability to deal with English speaking patients and I strongly recommend to not use this place.

Well it is still a total let down. Had high hopes that right about now my lifelong dream of permanently numb cock would be realized.
But it is important in life to keep clear perspective. Having charlatan doctors endanger your well being is not worth it.
