Re: The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen?
Six come to mind, Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago, Cleopatra, Titanic, 2001 a Space Odyssey.
All had the same thing in common, it took to long to say to little. Lets take them in order.
Gone with the Wind, I watched this movie at a theater, thought it was a good move, my butt was tired and I was ready to leave and OMG, its intermission.
Lawrence of Arabia, Watched this when it came out, everybody thought what a great movie, it is so memorial the only thing I remember is it being long and him riding on a white horse.
Dr Zhivago, long and boring
Cleopatra, great cast, great sets, entering the city wrapped in a rug, yawn.
Titanic, I must admit I did not go, it took four hours to tell a story that in real life lasted 20 minutes, it sunk get over it.
2001 a Space Odyssey, need I say more, or do I need to pick up a bone and hit another monkey over the head. Hal was fun.
I have seen other bad movies, like the spaghetti westerns that went of for 20 minutes of more with people looking meaningful at each other before anything happened.

Funny how different people see movies differently. I thought Titanic was about what a bittersweet thing life is.

Of that list, I agree with Lawrence of Arabia or as my friends and I called it "Florence of Arabia." It was just too long.
Gone with the Wind wasn't a story for me -- overwrought, overacted and Carol Burnett did it better in 30 minutes years later.
I never saw Cleopatra -- if you want to see Burton and Taylor in a real Tour De Force of a movie then get a copy of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and strap yourself in for that ride. This is one of the great dramas of the last century and maybe this century. But Cleopatra was despised on a large scale.
Years and years after it came out I got a copy of DR ZHIVAGO for my Mom to see. It is a love story told on with a grand scale backdrop of the Russian Revolution. So we had no intermission. But it was long, long, long, and weepy, weepy, weepy. But Pasternak wrote a great love story and it is still studied in high school and college today.
I always thought 2001, A Space Odyssey was overrated. But then, the people who raved about it saw it stoned out of their minds. I never got stoned.
TITANIC I thought was a long but it told a good story. Some of it could have been cut and left for the DVD as extras. I thought they overwrote the story and needed a ten or 15 minutes less. But it was the first movie that had a convincing Titanic on the seas. It worked as spectacle. I especially thought hat framing the story of the voyage from the POV of the modern expedition to the ocean site of the wreck was excellent. In its defense I will say that the TITANIC has held the public's imagination for a century and more. It is still a public fascination.
The story was done at least twice before -- as "Titanic" and as "A Night To Remember" and the sinking ship plot was used in many movies. I remember THE LAST VOYAGE (with Robert Stack, Dorothy Malone, George Sanders) which half-sunk the SS Ile de France for the movie. That had no special effects and every so often is shown on TCM. It is one of the lesser known "sinking ship" movies.

Re: The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen?
I remember on Saturday night watching the original B&W LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS that was supposed to be a rival to BUCKET OF BLOOD.
However, I remember when Jack Nicholson in one of his first roles was eaten by Audrey and turning to the other people in the room and asking if this movie was deliberately supposed to be a comedy. They all thought it was great horror and were afraid. I was giggling too much.
Years later and Broadway calls to the movies -- I was redeemed and found to be right! It always was a comedy!

Re: The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen?
Now Little Shop of Horrors was one of the great movies of all time. "Feed ME" and yes Carol Burnett did a much better job of it. most of that list was just to long, slow moving, OMG I got to go pee movies. the popcorn was long gone, the ice in the cup was long gone, and the movie kept going and going like the energizer bunny. Agree "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" was great, I remember my brother telling me the best way to see 2001 was to sit in the front row with several joints. I took him at his word.
Yes they all had one thing in common, TOO LONG. watching each was like reading a Michener epic, don't ask.

The actress in the non-musical Little Shop of Horrors was Jackie Joseph, not Carol Burnett.

Re: The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen?
The reference to Carol Burnett was for GONE WITH THE WIND -- They called it "Went With The Wind" and its in two parts:
#1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aRMZ4ePmMM
#2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjhtxfSMIWk
The antebellum South dies quicker than the movie and much funnier.
It is hard to forget such dramatic acting from Carol Burnett's ensemble.

sorry for your confusion, I should have made that two sentences. It was meant as one long run on sentence that commented on all of the above. I shall try in the future not to confuse you on my posts but I do believe Dave understood what I was talking about.

I remember back in the day where I would not miss the Carol Burnett show. it was the best of TV.
