That reminds me of a local news story a few years back in north central AR, a favorite spot of ours. They were having one of those "turkey drop" charitable fundraisers and were actually going to drop turkeys from an airplane. When the reporter asked the promoter about turkeys not being able to fly he replied, "They can if they have to."

I've seen wild turkeys fly but not high or far. I had a coworker try to drive a car through a flock of wild turkeys and his horn only made them ptck and scratch his car.
I've also know friends who can take home a case of Wild Turkey home on long weekends as a celebration.
However, WKRP's turkeys (the TV show) were frozen when they dropped them. If you've never seen the show the find it and watch it. Also, listen to the radio broadcast of the crash of the Hindenburg in NJ before you do.

I've taken home a case of Wild Turkey before. Never again. Doesn't compare with Canadian Communion Whisky.
Otoh, I thought Nessman dropped live turkeys, hence the flying bit; he also ended up all scratched - from frozen turkeys. Didn't realize they fought back.

Nessman was on the ground doing his best impression of the crash of the Hindenberg Zeppelin. His scratches come from the crowd running away from the falling turkeys. Gordon Jump (the actor's real name) get's the money line and was up in the helicopter.
BTW -- Wild Turkey is whiskey in the same mold as Ripple and Thunderbird Wine or that wine pretender that came in quart-sized plastic bottles from Ohio (A great wine-making state!) . . . Fraternities (much in the news these days) used those "wines" to make "Purple Passions" and after one year banned their member from ever doing that again. It seems a "Purple Passion" stains upon upchucking - - stains plasterboard, linoleum, vinyl, automotive interiors, porcelains, and strips metal paint from waste baskets.

The Turkeys in the show altho never seen were live, at one point back at the station Nessman said, they were coming after him. Gordon Jumps famous line comes at the station.
This is a must see, if you haven't seen it or its been years its worth the watch just look up "Turkeys can't fly" and you will be right on it.

I always took the "they came after me" line as the people who were in the parking lot for the turkey giveaway. I guess we heard the same line and interpreted it differently.
