im starting to get that vibe micdavi...it seams when there removed through the scrotum there is very little pain and quite fast healing time...
just a guess that there isnt much chance the doctor will let me keep them in a small jar to put the table? even she is my friend i presume she
would get in trouble for not incinerating them...

If you do have to return to work sooner than advised a scrotal support can be handy. It is like a jock strap with an opening for the penis. When the testicles are removed fluid naturally fills the void and can create swelling. At first
Also increased activity can also cause increased drainage and the support is great at holding the dressings in place. The nice thing about having the penis exposed is you do not have to raise and lower the support so the gauze dressings can stay in place. The weight of your scrotum filled with fluid until it is reabsorbed can cause discomfort if it is not supported.

i bought one of the supports from chemist today actually.
also bought a few non stick dressings...the ones you get from hospital
usually end up sticking and are way to big! got some nice ones i can cut
to size.
im expecting more of just a discomfort then actual pain...i cant imagine it will
be a whole heap different then when i got vasectomy done...they arent very different
surgery when it comes down to it...

Mine were removed by a vet's ass't w/ very little pain. I was snipped late Sat morning. Friends, the cutter and I walked about a km for supper. I drove 140 km to home the following day and arrived at work at the regular time on Monday. Complete healing took about 3 weeks. I still luv having an empty sac and having nothing hanging at the base of my cock.

I actually had very little discomfort at all. I did get 2 heamatomas at the ends of the chords which made it look as if my testicles were still there, but they were absorbed back into the system within about 2 weeks. There are some very nice non stick dressings available in the pharmacies that will be about the correct size to cover the incision which should be about 1" (25 mm) long) quite easily and they are also waterproof.
As to keeping your testicles in a bottle, I know of many cases where people were given their appendix in a bottle after removal and since there is no reason for your testicles to be sent for pathological study, maybe your doc will do this for you. Ask her, you have nothing to lose and she may even say yes.
Good luck for the 19th and let us know how it went. I will warn you that you will in all probability fond the empty scrotum will cause you a fair bit of discomfort after everything has healed up, but since you intend to undergo full SRS, I can understand why you want to keep it. I wanted my urologist to remove mine at the same time as my testicles but he advised against this. I definitely want mine removed, but since this is now an elective procedure, I will have to save up for the procedure.

Well I'm going to kind of throw a possible wrench in all the "I had no pain", "I had little pain", "I was back to work in a couple of days" type stories because as mentioned; we're all different. Now in my case I was a bit older at 61yrs and I smoked when my Orchie was done by Dr. A in Michigan. Both of those probably contributed to a slower healing time for me, the smoking is known to impede healing and some Doc's who do SRS and the like, want you to quit before they'll operate because of the healing issues.
Dr. A had started putting in post op drains as a regular practice just before I saw him and you leave those in for two to three days depending (sic) on how much is still draining out. He recommended some sort of scrotal support and I took some close fitting Depends underwear along with some female incontinence garments which fit snug and kept some pressure on the groin area. Mine drained for three days and if I hadn't had the Depends, it would have been a real problem to keep things under control because of the volume of the drainage.
It was a bit uncomfortable when he anesthetized the area but he used some type of local spray that felt really cold and it seemed to numb things up before the needle went in and I suspect by tightening the scrotum, made it easier to locate and inject the spermatic cords and other areas he wanted done. Wait for about ten minutes and he started the procedure which took about 45 minutes so I walked out of his office about an hour later and went to breakfast while waiting for the nearby Walgreens to open up so I could get the antibiotics and pain pills. Other than feeling the bulk of the dressings and Depends between my legs, I figured "this isn't bad at all". By noon I was one hurting guy but took a walk around the hotel as Dr. A had recommended. Bye 6PM I was really hurting and got into the pain pills.
Long story shorter; the incision leaked for about 2 weeks before it stopped weeping. The bruising and swelling were something to behold. It took about 3 weeks for the majority of the swelling to go down and over a month for the bruising to go away. The ligated and severed cords take months to decrease back to their normal size and actually shrink, in the meantime they extend into your scrotum and actually feel like you still have your testicles as someone mentioned and if you sit down wrong and pinch those ends, well it's not pleasant......
Now of all the reports I've seen here of post op experiences, I don't remember anyone who saw an MD. having the issues I did, but Dr. A assured me along the way that while mine did seem to be taking it's time to heal, it was all within the range of "normal".
Am I glad I did it? Yes. Would I do it again knowing before hand what it would be like post op? Yes. I hope the OP doesn't get faced with what I did but be prepared for some issues and standing or walking around a lot in just a few days is really not a good idea.

Zeebster, I am also 61 and was done in March of this year. I am sorry to hear of your complications. Luckily I stopped smoking back in 1980 and so this would not have been a factor in my recovery. Your problems and my lack thereof tend to highlight the fact that as you said, our mileage will differ. I had no drain inserted and 99% of my swelling and bruising was gon after 2 weeks, so I guess I was fortunate.

I was castrated by a local urologist on a Friday morning, was home for lunch. Had minimal pain, used ice and took 3 Tylenol lll. Drove my wife to work Sat AM and went in myself but wasn't very useful and went to a hockey game Sat night. I had a drain inserted and it worked wonderfully so there was no swelling or bruising, removed Monday afternoon. Some residual discomfort in groin for about 2 weeks from doctor pulling on cords to cut them as short as possible so everything remaining retracted into abdomen so scrotum is totally empty, noticeable but tolerable.
