I would wait 6 months before thinking about taking it out at all. I still have a hole where mine was, needs to be stretched to get the ring back in I don't have mine in because of work and the nasty toilets, the sitting to pee so as not to make a mess

It happens that I have PA. Of my experience what causes discomfort is a small size of the piercing. The reason for that is jewellry small contact area to surrounding tissue which causes much higher pressures to surrounding tissues and discomfort accordingly.
Yes, you can take out your jewllry For a half hour it shouldn't be a problem, but if you forget it out for hours be prepared for difficulties to get it back in. Then only steady pressure helps. If you can't get it back in try to insert something smaller first place and try again with normal jewllry.

I have a P.A. since 1995, I'd say the bigger the better, about 2 ga. It's more comfortable but I don't wear it all the time anymore, at my next appointment, I'm going to ask my urologist to close the hole because I don't find it as exciting as before.

Hehehe.I''m another victim of a PA gone south and left with a meatotomy..(split head)...I had one with a hole so big, I was up to a ring about 5/8 inch in diameter. The weight of the ring just ripped it's way out and left me with a cleft pecker head. Hehe...I've had to sit to pee for about 15 years now...The ring prevented a straight flow, now the split head does the same..I'm just an old cunt now anyway..so it's apropos for me to sit to pee..Now all I need is an orchiectomy...I'll be complete..smooches Jackie
I have had a meatotomy (split head) for about 5 years I'm still able to stand to pee when needed out in public, at home I chose to sit while peeing. I find sitting more relaxing and keeps the bathroom cleaner.

Usually they do a PA with a 12 ga 1/2 in captive bead ring. Discuss with your piercer if want larger or different type of jewelry. It takes several weeks to heal and if you don't mess with it there wont be hardly any blood and of course keep it clean. Skudster
