On the rare occasion that I feel well enough to exercise, I walk around the house dragging a cat toy behind me. That way, I get a little exercise and Wizard gets a little play time. (In my house, I can walk South down the hall, turn right into the dining room, turn right into the corner of the living room and then turn right back into the hall. I usually switch directions every two or three minutes. The cat toys I use are a rope with a knot in the end, a bead on a string and a rattle ball on a string.)

I usually do a mile each night, sometimes only 3/4. Over terrain, down a 30 degree hill, across the field to the creek. Sometimes I have to jump it; I have a strategically placed rock in the middle to land on. Now and then, it slips. Or I miss. Heading down the opposite hill, I can clear the creek, but my ankles and knees are beginning to complain about it. Very invigorating in winter weather. About three months or so ago, I misplaced the beagle. I ran the length of it, full out, and back up the hill. Over to the other road, and back. All in all, about a mile at a dead run. Barefoot. I am pretty sure I had a minor heart attack over that one. The little porker was sitting on the step, waiting for me, crying, when I got back.

It does help keep the weight down though.

My blood sugar is 72 mg/dl right now, and I'm headed to bed soon.

You know the bread is real if back contents says its sprouted grain, non gluten.

Labels saying 100% whole grain don't cut it anymore. It's usually a marketing tactic as the bread you think is healthy you buy in reg supermarket stores ain't as 100% whole wheat as they may lead you to believe.(This is real homework for some)

I can understand why many opt for a paleo diet.

If you ask me where to find real bread. just go to a nutrition store but it'll cost you.

Alternatively there exists a bread that doesnt rely on grains but instead uses pure almonds or coconuts(see link above)

I hope this helps River. You may not have to give up bread. Just opt for alternatives like link above.

Same applies for butter, substitute it. Fry foods with cocnut oils, pure virgin olive oil (low heat remember that)

NB = I may actually opt for paleo bread soon. Its pissing me off how hard it is to shop for "real" healthy grained bread. It's as if the industry wants to deter you from eating healthy

River,

That "good" son has other motives. He wants to torture you, for a long time.

When you count these calories, just what do they look like?

I lost 50 pounds a few years back, got back in my 30 inch button fly Levi's. The down side was I got Weak.

Well the tide has rushed back in.

I understand, that I can no longer eat a half dozen slices of bread a day, I get it that Cinnamon rolls twice a week are a no no, that buscits and gravy once a week is off the menu, and my world famous pancakes can no longer be a Sunday breakfast. However, a sandwich made with whole grain bread made a couple times a week I don't see a problem with.

Maybe I am in total denial but I do believe,

All things in moderation, including diets.

So I have a doctor approved diet, he is my doctor the guy that I trust with my health and this is important that you trust your doctor, we set up a plan for me to follow, I am doing that. In the last 6 months I have radically changed my diet, now I am into stage two because I want to get rid of the weight and keep it off, which involves a change in life stile and by doing so it must be small steps or it will fail. In 6 months or so I will reevaluate my diet, make small changes, tweak it as it were, nothing major. I have already made the major change with giving up white flour for the most part and that is huge. Does it mean that I will never ever have anything made with white flour again, NO, what it means is that I can have a little once in a while, like pancakes at the MOM, biscuits and gravy 2 or 3 times a year if I have been good.

I think my outlook on my diet would be different if my blood sugar was 300+ or my A1c was 7.0 or higher but they are not, its about my weight, blood sugar is the result, one will take care of the other.

Goal to be 235Lbs by Jan 1, 10% a year in weight loss, my secondary goal is to be 210 by Jan 1, but I will be happy with 235 if that is all I get to.

Next month I get my A1c checked again before I go to the half day fat man class, where I will learn more about why I am on this diet that says I can no longer eat anything - give me a bone or something.

You can make that work.

Try not to reach a point of lusting and craving a foodstuff so drastically that you break all the rules.

Eat less is the key. Eating wisely and healthily is much better.

You done it now. I'm down to 185 give or take a pound.

Two hours ago I bought a foot long Subway. Cut it in half, put the other half in the cooler..

It's been calling to me for over a half hour. Now the box of Oreo's are speaking up too.

Well the sub would be gone but the Oreo's they could set there for years and I would never touch them.

Yes its working, today for breakfast oatmeal, lunch carrots, apple and a piece of cheese, after noon snack 1/2 ham sandwich, dinner some ribs and cottage cheese, last snack 2 small cookies and a small milk. total calorie count for the day between 1800 and 1900. it was a good day.

Breakfast: 2 cups coffee and the usual vitamin supplements. I take C,D, & B-complex to make for what I don't get in diet.

I rarely eat breakfast anymore.

Lunch: 3 large brown eggs, handful of crumbled bacon mixed in, scrambled.

Dinner - small salad, small bowl tomato/mushroom/bacon soup, and 1 small can albacore (tuna) in oil.

Dessert - 2 cups (~16 carbs) sugar free ice cream - not a daily thing.

Total calories, don't care.

Total carbs - less than 40 grams

I do drink coffee and tea throughout the day, as well as water.

Someone please teach River about, "brown" flour vs "white"

and the glycemic index. Observed not hypothetical.

I tried. :(
