This is clearly beneficial for non-op trans women. For those seeking SRS it could be problematic. If there is no disorder it is difficult to convince insurance to pay for reassignment. Without pathology it becomes cosmetic plastic surgery, and of course you will have to pay for it yourself. Since insurance doesn't pay for most people today anyway, that's no change, but it will probably make insurance coverage for SRS more difficult in the future.

And if you are trans, this change does not necessarily mean you aren't crazy. Running trans support groups for years, I have listened to hundreds of trans women. From observation I am convinced that at least three groups are substantially overrepresented among the trans population. These are geniuses, people with autism-spectrum disorders, and people who are truly bat-shit crazy, and there is probably considerable overlap between the three groups. I am in at least two.

Hey..I'm still effin' nuts...But that may not have anything to do with my being trans... I see this as the scientific community (psychiatrists in this case) just putting in writing what they had come to a consensus over the years between publication. Evolution...Jackie

I've noticed the exact same thing. I don't associate with other trans folks IRL at all because of past experience.
