What's the gender distribution in your D&D groups? I'm guessing more men than women.

Back 25 to 30 years ago when I played D&D our group was about an even mix of male and female, then again it was husbands and wives, ex-wives, ex-husbands, older teens like 16 and up if anything there were more gals playing then guys but that was our group. Several of us took on the roll of DM so that everybody would get a chance to play.

Today I play it on line and its called WOW.

The Hobbit has been expanded and additional material has been pulled from Tolkien's notes and Lost tales. It really has been set as the prequel for Lord of the Rings. As for number of females, the Silmarillion has Luthien as one of the single greatest characters in all of Middle Earth. But don't apply modern standards to when these books were crafted.

Fun and stranges thread.

tolkin didn`t just make elfs-dwarfs-hobbits-orcs-man.

he made a totaly new world.

many of the races in midle earth have long life expectency.

Elf live logest(senturies)

Dwarfs live 3-600 years(some die young lol)

hobbits and humans live about the same life lenght.

But Froddo and Bilbbo live way longer.(because of the one ring!) Not because they are hobbits.

You can say the same about golhum.(live long, even if he is a creatur started out simulare to hobbits)

Yes the Hobbit tail of mr, Jacsson will be 3 movies.

When some of you turn to d&d. the players thats organized around the world. there is about 1 female for every 4 male.(80%) But femal number is raising fast.

The way i see it. They cant be compeered.(d&d and Midleearth) its just totaly different way of adressing the plot.

Tolkin sad he made the world(midleearth) and the stories came along. the ide was about conecting old tales like beawolf.trolls and other old myths into a world where it was posible.

So gender was trully not importent, As J R R lived in a time. where Men where heros(1-2 ww) and people that did large explorings also where men.

it is just a part of how any person will adress a alternative universe.

There are rumers(i trully hope is false) that Tom Bombadil will be a part of the hobbit. that will be so wrong.

When he didnt use it in LOTR, where he trully belong. It will be killing J R R`s world if he use him in the hobbit.

My 2 cents.

All I have to say about Tom-fucking-Bombadil not being in LOTR is GREAT! Give them an Oscar for that one!

I always thought elven were inmortal but when they died they had to stay locked into the Halls of Mandos in Valinor(sorta like a limbo).

The price to pay for being inmortal I suppose?

Elves are immortal. In other words, they don't suffer from old age or illness. But they can be killed. Then their spirits go to Valinor, as Foxytaur said. I believe Men also go to a separate hall in Valinor. Nothing is said about the fate of Hobbits or Dwarves that I can remember.
