Do you have to remove the insides of both of them?

Thanks to janekane for that explanation. How nice it would be, for prostate cancer patients, and for those of us who need to eliminate testosterone for our own personal reasons, if there was a suction method that would evacuate the entire inner contents of the testicle, thus eliminating the need for scalpels and stitches.

I bet the old egyptians had tools like that, concidering how they had tools to suck the brains outta dead peoples' noses for embalming.

What I don't really get is how there's so little info on exactly how the Castrati were made.. It's like different people have different takes on that.

Doesn't there exist like archives full of info from that time, it's like only just over 100 years ago. I bet at least the vatican has its secret vaults full!

Not much was written about the process, mainly because while it was being done, it was still rather hush-hush. Most Castrato kept to their stories that they had lost their manhood from animal attacks, disease or accidents. No one wanted to admit to having it done simply to sing.

From what I've gathered on the subject, each of the Barber Surgeons that offered the service had different methods of getting the job done. There was no single consistent way to do it.

They could be crushed. They could be cut out. They could do it while submerged in the bath. Sometimes the bath was said to be a bath of milk. the Cords could be sewn shut, burnt through, or shredded. Some stories suggest the child was given a dose of opium, or was made drunk on wine before the surgery.

No doubt in Italy you could find a different way to do it for each city or barber you visited.

There is a lot more written about the eunuchs of China and India, but their method was a lot more barbaric. They would stretch the genitals, including the penis, as far away from the body as possible, and then with the sharpest knife they could find, slice it all off in a single stroke. The wound would then be cauterized. The child would be refused drink until the wound began to clot, then they would be forced to drink a large amount of liquid. The pressure of the urine would either breach the wound, and a new pee hole would be created, or the child would jaundice and expire. There was a very low survival rate for that method.

The Chinese Method was also only abandoned about a hundred years ago.

It sounds to me like this thread has the makings of a story for the Fiction Archive.

Any takers?

Maybe I will.. Maybe that's why I am researching..

It's just strange how no newspaper happened to write about it, or some adverticements or anything at all.. I guess parents just had to go to the local barber and ask if "Hey, besides shaving my face, you wouldn't by any chance be able to remove our Junior's family jewels as well?"

As with the recent scandal news of the '50s Catholic castrations, they knew about it then too but kept if for themselves. Surely there exists something other than fiction. Somewhere.

sorry for getting off-topic here, but i happen to have had reason lately to research egyptian brain removal(best use ur imaginations for why. probably more entertaining than my real reason). a majority of egyptologists(not an overwhelming majority, tho') favor something they call the "brain hook"(i am unimpressed by their nomenclature skills). in thru the nose, hook the tissue & drag it back out thru the nose. frankly, i find egyptian dentistry to be more impressive. anyways, as u were...

Yep, the "brain hook" that they used.

Today they use ACIDS to etch the brain away.

We're basically buried hollow! That can't be good..

After banding my balls, which I have done on many occasions (yes I know the risks), I sometimes pierce the scrotum and testicles with a sterile syringe needle. This does not hurt as much as you would expect, just leaves a dull ache in the testicles. But whilst the needle is inserted, I have noticed many times that there is a clear fluid that comes out of the exposed end of the needle. There is not much of it, but a few droplets from each needle. I have fealt and tasted the fluid. It is slightly sticky to the touch, and is very slightly salty in taste, but overall very neutral. I wonder if it would be possible to extract more fluid by attaching a syringe and gently applying some suction? Hmm maybe for some time in the future.

This fluid is inside tunica vaginalis and overproduction of this liquid causes hydrocele. This is not exactly inside your testicle.
