That sounds like a,

"Some of my best Canadians are friends"

type statement.

Eh?

As I see it the only problem with those skilled job vacancies in central Canada is

you gotta live there. 😱

Do they pay an extra plushy wage like they (use to?) do for North Slope oil workers?

If you were a skilled worker, would you rather relocate to central Texas or central Canada?

Or maybe stay home and take welfare?

I'd rather relocate to central Canada. As far as I know, it has better healthcare, than US. Climate is a second choosing point.

As for welfare - it is an interesting question, and it depends. In my case, I'd probably would quickly go insane if I would be doing nothing. I would, probably, end up either volunteering for something, or helping some opensource project (for which I currently do not have much time).

Should we discuss that in the other thread?

Yep if given a choice Canada does look like a better option then the US these days. Health care is one reason.

A reality check for Moi: Throughout a longish and interesting life I have been aware that many people in the region of the northern borders feel much more in line with Canada than with parts of the United States. --FLO--

I believe that. Those peoples look alike.

However, I doubt the Americans are "more in line" with OttawaCare medicine. Regardless of benefits.

Canadian health care is so great that Canadians who can afford to pay for their own health care come to the United States for major care. eh!

That's right Mac, because we have the best health care in the world, just ask any republican.

Makes me so excited I want to holler USA USA USA USA. now were did I put my flag, gotta wave it, gotta wave it, USA USA USA

I feel so much better having done that, now I need to remember to call the county to get transportation to the VA 35 miles away and set up an appointment with the VA because that's the only health care I can afford, even though a hospital and office is in town.

BUT I don't mind because we have the best health care money can buy. USA USa Usa usa

Mac, I will not make this personal, but I have to say... your statement is grossly incomplete. grossly.

You are simply regurgitating an opinion made by politicians and others who are desperate to make you USA citizens feel better about going broke from surgery and medical care.

Some Canadians, who don't want to wait a reasonable time and have pots of money, do choose to go to USA for certain treatments or tests. We have a shortage of MRI scanners, true. But if you present to emergency with an acute problem that needs an mri scan, you WILL get it immediately. Some folks choose to go to usa; that's fine. But we do get it when we need it.

Others choose to go to famous hospitals for treatment. Again, because they are rich, and want to do so. Whatever.

But don't try to insinuate that we are all desperately clawing our stricken hands against the shuttered doors of hospitals. Dude, that's a lie.

I had a hernia suddenly a few years back. Went to the doctor, he said I gotta have that fixed like now. Next day surgery. Excellent results.

Dad needed a new hip. He got his in the best place in North America for hip replacement, Winnipeg, Manitoba; it's known to have progressive, best-available doctors. Excellent results.

Mom died slowly of cancer over a few years. Doctors did excellent, world-class work. YES, we have excellent, well-paid doctors, not med-school dropouts who can't afford "real" work in the USA. Doctors LIKE working here; we don't have health-care stuffed suits telling them what they can and cannot do!! DOCTORS decide, here. WHere you are, the insurer decides.

AND GUESS WHAT, Mac. My treatment? Moms? Dad's? Countless others? I didn't pay a dime out of pocket. None of us do, except the obvious taxes.

* We get world-class health care. Don't believe the lies.

* We pay hardly different than you guys do in federal/provincial tax.

* We don't sign over our houses for treatment.

* But a few of us who are impatient, want quackery/untested treatments, or are filthy rich and want fine Damask cloth serviettes with our hospital food, choose to pay to go to the USA.

Just for heaven's sake stop ignorantly spreading that bullshit story that those of us who can "afford to pay for our own health care" go to the USA for "major care". Bullshit. With no outside insurance, my simple hernia surgery woulda set me back 14,000 if I went there. I got timely, excellent work done HERE.

Where I live on Vancouver Island, we are just a short ferry ride away from Seattle. We actually have a problem with Americans trying to get free Canadian health care. As I understand it, All Canadian cities with easy access to the USA border have this problem. Fake Canadian care cards are common, and we unfortunately have to take steps against accepting them.

The difference is, we Canadians sometimes go south of our border to hospitals in the USA to get elective care, or non-emergency care, a little faster. That is, if we have the money to pay out of pocket.

However, American citizens come over to Canada in droves, trying to take advantage of our universal care. They come seeking to get urgent, sometimes life threatening illnesses treated, because they can't afford it in the USA.

Even if we Canadians don't have the money to spend in the USA for our elective, or non-emergency treatments, we can still get it here in Canada. We just have to wait a little longer. Emergencies will always come first.

Who decides what is medically an emergency, elective, or non-urgent? Not the government. No. In Canada it is the doctors who decide.

In the USA it is not the emergency treatment that gets priority care. Priority care goes to the one with the biggest pocket book.

I'm sure you'll excuse me if I think that is wrong.
