HPV has been linked to cervical cancer in women for quite some time, and I understand there's now evidence that it can lead to penile cancer in men. That seems more plausible to me than a cow's being a Sandpaper Sally. Just a thought....

Logical assumption i remember reading a report about a women who had some kind of a reaction to a dog she was having fun with and died.

here is an article on it no details tho.

On one hand yes, on the other hand no... now I am not sure. While this research seems to really just fit too nicely into the Moron Majority agenda, I do recall reading an article many years ago, about how most viruses that have plagued the human race had originally been in other animals. Syphillis for example, had infected sheep (harmless to that animal) and some time about 1,000 or more years ago jumped to the human race - the original strain of syphillis was extremely rapid and caused death in six months or less, viruses change over time.

So, I do for the time being, believe that this is not a made up story, and that the research is probably sound, but given the conclusions, I can see how it does sound like it was "made to order." I would be interested to know just who funded this research - after all, research papers can be "bought." Experts can be wrong, I clearly remember back in the early 80's, the U.S. Surgeon General publicly stated that "cocaine was NOT addictive," and any "addicition" was not physiological, only psychological.... ok, well it sure fucks up a lot of people's lives, addictive or not. I also remember some "scientific research" from Japan that "proved" caucasian and asian races had larger brains than African races. "Experts" claimed that the MMR vaccine caused autism, and of course, when R.J. Reynolds paid for the research, they clearly proved that smoking was not at all bad for you or addictive... Scientific research can definitely be "bought," so whenever the conclusions point to something that seems to reinforce someone's agenda, I am pretty wary of it. All that said, given what little I do know about viruses, I do for the time being, accept that this research is probably factual and unbiased, but I will certainly look around and see if there is any other point of view on this matter.

SWA was reported by 171 (34.8%) subjects, 44.9% of PC patients and 31.6% of controls (P < 0.008). The mean ages at first and last SWA episode were 13.5 years (standard deviation [SD] 4.4 years) and 17.1 years (SD 5.3 years), respectively.

Here is the part I find Suspect. I can understand the mean age group with SWA- due to puberty, religion, and rual areas, but the study does not say the mean age of the PC cases. PC is very rare in younger boys/men, so after reading this It would lead me to believe that there is high rate of young guys without dicks in Brazil. Which I highly doubt is the case.

Hell if that IS the case, I'm booking my plane ticket right after this post!:dong:

Microbes can mutate. Given access to the blood stream gets around a major microbial barrier. HIV proves sexually acquired abrasions is good enough.

I believe at times when I had a "cold" sometimes my cat got sick too. Even sneezed and was less interested in food. I subscribe to the theory that the HIV infections did begin when a person in Africa was bloodily chopping up a (HIV) similarly infected primate.

Another theory of Syphilis is that a Microbe that the Spanish carried hybridized with a Microbe in the new World to create a new more deadly disease

Bejel of the Mediterranean meets Yaws of the New World and their hybrid was Syphilis.

Bestiality is a reasonable avenue to the evolution of the next de novo disease.

Microbes can mutate and create new diseases! Microbes can cross species lines!

Actually I always enjoyed studying "worms" and illness more then microbes. Worms may have a protective effect like giving baby dirty time on an organic lawn. Such normal "challenges to immunity" help program immunity to avoid confusion with "self" or non offensive things like pollen.

Lupus, rheumatoid etc. are diseases of hygienic nations.

I'm pretty sure that penis cancer has a strong link to HPV. In girls it has already been related to cervical and labial cancers and throat cancer (from oral sex) and most penile cancers are related to the foreskin (which is why circumcision helps) which is a male analog to the cervix. I expect that sex with animals probably exposes people to similar viruses. Note that in Brazil I think that most men are uncircumcised.

The good news is that the HPV vaccine for boys is becoming mainstream. That should actually eliminate the medical reasons for circumcision.

The most interesting thing is that many medical conditions may be related to viruses or immune responses. Even heart disease, the arterial plaque may be due to an immune response. There really may be some methods of preventing many cancers available soon.
