Cainanite, Moi, Boing and whoever else wants to see the story archive:
Do not have this discussion. Leave it to MOM.
Stop trying to have this discussion unless you are going to MOM.
Talula and the other admins did yeoman's work getting the new website and transferring nearly every post and blog and item in the VBulletin.
Everyone now knows hat the fiction archive was the source of that trouble and that will be discussed at MOM.
Let it at that and quit badgering people. I'm not in on the decision because I can;t travel to MOM this year (would have been my first). But you will do no good if you spend the next month in all sorts of discussions trying to affect the decision.
The greatest good that the EA does is encapsulated within what was moved. That was what was most important to the EA.
So please leave this discussion to the MOM. Stop being a pest to those who have done so much good in the past two weeks (or ten days or whatever it was)...

If the only reason you come to the archive is to jack off, leave now.
...
There might be another suggestion: Get yourself castrated, using the information found here (and nowhere else). By the time the stories are up, it won't matter, because you will have just finished with your hot flashes.
Keep up the good work, EA!!!

O.K. Time to slow down on all of the Fiction Board comments. Nothing will be decided until the MoM. All Archive members who wish to contribute to the discussion are invited to the MoM. I expect that we’ll be deciding on directions for the Fiction Archive on Saturday, August 20th. We’d be happy to see a large throng gathered for the occasion.
There are a few points to keep in mind for the discussion that we will be having:
1) The Fiction Archive is managed on a unique program, compatible with nothing else in the known world. It was written specifically for the purpose by Bboy, the founder of the Archive in the mid 1990s,
2) Moving the Fiction Archive to a new server and a new address is going to take a massive amount of programming work by Talula, probably assisted by a phalanx of volunteers to clean up and edit every story for the new format (over 10,000 stories),
3) Until BME decided to no longer host the EA, there were tens of thousands of hits on the Fiction Archive per day, eating up a huge amount of bandwidth. BME paid the bills, but it will now be expensive to keep it on line. We’ll have to find a way to fund it. Just keeping the Message Board going, with its far smaller bandwidth demand, will require on-going requests for donations.

Thank you, Dave, and everyone else who replied with comments that MAKE SENSE.
I will only add this to what Talula posted before he sighed deeply and walked away:
How many of you "story whiners" have had all-night IM conversations with new EA users whom you thought might be on the verge of hurting themselves ... or worse?
How many of you have lain awake all night wondering if one of the minor boys living in your house managed to breach security on the PC and found out WHO you really were?
How many of you have, as Talula did, spent all night, lost pay, lost time off, helping make this place work?
This subject is DONE, and I MEAN DONE.
I WILL tolerate NO more threads on the discussion on the Fiction Archive.
The Wayback Machine is there.
Some of the stories were allowed to be reposted at ASSTR.org via PZA. Go and search it. (Not many, though)
I have a couple contacts at PZA, and I have put in a help request to them. I will address such at the MOM, and NOT on this forum.
Back in 1999/early 2000, Bboy entrusted access to the story submitter and posting system to ME.
And I broke it, thus taking down the whole friggin' Archive.
I am so proud.
I will tell you all, I LOVED that man.
I kissed that man.
I could kick myself in the arse repeatedly for not doing MORE with that man in 2001 when I had the chance!
There are nights when I still lay in bed in cry for that man.
The Eunuch Archive was born of Bboy's dream of a repository of castration / penectomy fiction.
Like any creation, over the years, it evolved. It became. It was, it is, and it WILL be.
Not having the Fiction Archive ( no matter how much Slammr and I may bitch about it!) is liking having a car with 3 wheels. It is like losing a limb. It is a PHYSICAL pain.
However, that pain pales in comparison to the thoughts of "what if" - meaning what might happen if EA were not in place? I HAVE dealt with individuals whom I firmly believe had their lives either saved or changed for the better by The Archive. I like to think that by endangering my very existence, without going into too much detail, that it was worth it to save someone from making a TERRIBLE mistake!
So don't you DARE come in here and dog on Talula, IE, or anyone else for the current shape of The Archive.
Finding out that this fiasco happened is like getting a call in the middle of the night to tell you that your child has been killed in a car crash - and for your information, YES, I had that happen with a nephew this past spring.
The Eunuch Archive is THAT important.
I will close this thread, and I will remove any more threads relating to the whining about the Fiction Archive.
You have been warned.
