Because we won the big one against YOU, twice.
Moi's answer was rude and has nothing to do with why we don't use the metric system. Restrain yourself, Moi.

I was an involuntary slave in the army once and they stuck me in artillery. It was my job to shoot guns.
So how far is a click? In movies you always get these military types talk about the opposition being three clicks to the north or whatever.
What's a click in Civilian?

Although I was in the Army before metric, I'm reasonably sure a click is a kilometer. Online sources confirm that. Military maps are metric.

It really doesn't matter what system you use. I learned both doing research and use then interchangeably. When its your reputation on the line and you are talking to the experts in the field, you learn both and use them fluently. Get the idea?

I am german and I hate your system because of the same reasons...
Its natural to dislike something you are not used to. I still know when we gut the euro currency. Everything seemed to be tooo cheap, but really it wasnt. On the contrary.
And since when are your american units god given?
Well. Doesnt matter really. The metric system will win... Almost the whole world have it. I guess the USA will have to import the metric system...
I think you're missing the joke when Moi says, "God given..."
This is understandable given the language differences between yourself and Moi.

Plus, I'd honestly rather not even think about what the Imperial version of bytes would have been. ("How many halobytes are there in an iffibyte again? 212 or 214? Ok, now we multiply that by 60 to get jittabytes..." And before you complain, yes, I know technically bytes are powers of 2 rather than powers of 10, but if the drive manufacturers can market powers of 10, I can use them for this argument.)
There would be no imperial version of bytes, those were determined by the binary nature of 1's and 0's.

I would hope such invocations as "GOD given" and "big one, twice"
would acknowledge a degree of mirth in the statements as should not be taken so seriously. Neither by the German members nor the super PC.
BTW the episode of South Park this week centers on the German's being the least funny people in the world. Does this mean Germany is joining the ranks of Canada, Poland and the French as standard American cultural targets of humor?
And I still like the idea of knowing my small car holds fifteen gallons of gasoline and by big bad 4WD Ford Expedition holds 30 gallons. And my Silver and Gold coins are in ounces.
clysmaniac how much beer was that in metric?

What usually catches us unaware is the troy pound vs the regular pound. A precious metals dealer will offer out a pound of silver and our natural instinct is to think 16 times spot silver price. However, a pound of precious metal is only 12 troy ounces, not 16. What makes it more confusing is the fact that comparing a single troy ounce vs regular ounce the troy does weigh more.

So Moi, which Ounce are you talking about?????

River -The American, GOD, Mother and Apple Pie ounce.
Listening to Al Jazeera in English report the flood in the Midwest. They spoke of hectares of flooded land. Not acres. Not metric.
I knew Al Jazeera was out to confuse us.
BTW Al Jazeera has become my favorite TV News program. Those poor reporters are so busy going a good job on real news they hardly have time for anti Israeli content.
