Japanese Pacific expansion efforts resurface. The only other nation I know to practice such manifest destiny is Holland, although they do it more peacefully.

My wife and I have been glued to the television for most of today – with short breaks for Internet and email. Fortunately, most of her family are well into the countryside on the far side of Tokyo from the epicenter of the earthquake. They were well shaken, but no significant damage done. One niece and her family live much closer. They report that their small bookstore has books scattered everywhere off the shelves, but there was no structural damage reported in their town.
