Except for a home mortgage
Credit is a fool's game!
Want a new car? Save up and pay cash.
Go in, dressed and act poorly, make it clear as your income is unstable financing is not an option, cash only. My friend got an upgrade and 1K sun roof with that act - so they could move one off inventory.
Besides doing business with a stack of $100 bills, (Oh how I remember when that stack would be $20 bills), I pay all my monthly utilities and credit card as to create a "savings" account set aside for them to feed on until next time.
Very handy when unforeseen rougher times come.
And savings interest rates are not so great.

I see Moi's point. It is goal I'm trying to reach.
A-1 adds a dose of reality that is fact for for a large number of us.
Many of us don't plan ahead long enough or are living paycheck to paycheck and do not have enough cash on hand to purchase an automobile, or some higher ticket items and are having a hard time saving any meaningful amount of money for the future. Plus, emergencies happen.
Would you be able to go out and purchase a replacement automobile if the one you have now was accidentally totaled tomorrow? Even a used one of the same make, model and general overall condition would be hard to find and it would more than likely cost much more than what insurance would pay you for your current one.

I might get $2.50 for mine, and I could probably afford a similar replacement. 2002 Silverado 1500, 479,000 miles....

Certainly emergencies happen and one might need some credit for a new set of wheels.
Negotiate from the poor boy tactic mentioned earlier as a cash payer then after a price is set, go for financing. Often better financing outside of dealership.
I was trying to address the habit of planning to purchase a car on credit rather then saving.
Moi
BTW

how long do privileged persons get to pollute thread topics with personal attacks as seem only funny to someone with mania, psychosis or intoxication?
Just asking. Don't ban Moi over it.

So I just spent a half hour trying to cancel my best buy mastercard, it's like pulling teeth. This stupid card only has a 300$ limit, and a 59$ annual fee, so I paid it off, called to cancel, and it's just blah blah blah blah blah blah blah out of those people, I couldn't even get them to cancel it, but they did waive the annual fee, still, with such a low limit, I can't buy anything worthwhile, so I told them that they have 3 months to do something about the limit or I'll be calling to cancel again. Feels like canceling AOL all over again :realpisse
If it's the Reward Zone master card, waiting for a system upgrade, which will be completed soon, has kept them from doing any credit line increases since the credit card law changes in 2010. They couldn't process them for anyone. Try asking for one at the end of this month. The upgrade will be complete by then. If it is that card, be aware that they've only waived the af for this year. You'll be charged it again next year.

Think of a "credit" card as a "charge" card.
Kind of like a deferred payment debit card.
Make sure you ALWAYS pay the balance down to zero every month.
Some cards, on some purchases, provide insurance, extended warranty.
Some cards provide you with points that you can use for cash back or merchandise. Take the cash.
If a merchant screws you with no product or bad product, you can often times get the charge reversed back to them.
Then there are the retail store cards (not MC or VISA) where you can buy products, make minimum payments, and pay NO interest for a year or more.
When I use this method I always make automatic payments every two weeks so that there are no glitches. If you miss a payment, you will pay for the FULL deferred interest. Ouch.

It is O.K. if you DO NOT buy on credit.
Last week we got a NEW electric range and a new refrigerator (a BIG one, too with automatic ice maker & filtered cold water) for less than $1100.00 U.S. from Best Buy.
It was a well known brand name.
We paid cash from our tax refund.
The refrigerator alone we priced at $1300 at another store. The same model, same year.
