Avodart blocks all three with about a 81% efficacy. So, Avodart works a LOT better but it is also more expensive. You can try a low dose of E on top of that or actually an E-blocker like tamoxifen. Nothing will kill your libido and erection like super low E!

Correct. Do you realize this is Propecia? I was literally with a hair restoration dr. today who told me he would prescribe 5 mg of Propecia to me, and I'd have to get a pill cutter and lower the dose to 1 mg daily. Then he told me about the side effects taht I already knew about, that for some men there is loss of libido and weak erections or full on impotence. So, really, if someone wants to try this, it's as simple as talking to your regular doctor about hair loss, or going to a hair restoration doctor.

FYI, I'm scared of the pill. My castration fantasies are just fantasies, I do not want it to go to sleep. But I think that anyone who does want theirs to go to sleep, take a nap, or get sliced right off should have the right to do so. And that goes double for any girl accidentally born with a penis.

I've taken the 5mg proscar alone for a while and can't say I really had any side effects. I don't think Proscar is going to even come close to being chemical castration for most people. Even with E, 200 mg of spiro and 5 mg a day of proscar, I rarely have problems "performing" with my gwife if I so desire.

If I mainly want feminization and prevetion and maybe regrowth of male pattern baldness should I take spironolactone, estrogen and finasteride? I want to switch to androcur/siterone but should I add finasteride to block dht too?

I'll post since nobody else has yet; I'm not sure how useful this is!

I've been taking dutasteride (similar mechanism) for about nine months and I'm not sure how much good it's doing. I did rapidly start to regrow hair on my forehead after losing my bits though so perhaps you will see this just from the reduction in DHT from the finasteride. Neither spironolactone nor cytoperone acetate (plus hormones) would do this by itself - my hairline was already lower than some genetic women's my age though so it might not be hair I was "supposed" to grow back although it's definitely a plus. One thing that has happened while taking dutasteride is my right boob has now overtaken my left which I suppose might be attributed to the drop in DHT interfering with the estrogen?

But I don't understand why only dutasteride/finasteride do this. As far as I know spiro blocks testo->dht too. Or did I miss something?

Is there furthermore a really big difference between finasteride and dutasteride? Because the latter one is pretty expensive.

If I'm right spiro blocks it at the receptor but not the conversion so you still have it competing and obviously some getting through?

Finasteride blocks one pathway and dutasteride blocks two. I seem to remember the serum level reductions being something like 75% and 95% so both block "most" but then you've got five times more with finasteride :S Obviously there is local conversion too - scalp DHT is not reduced anything like as much.

Saw palmetto is also touted to block the conversion but it seemed to do more harm than good for me. I think it also attaches itself to estrogen receptors and it's not very powerful once it does.

Hopefully someone has tried both for a decent amount of time each because I've only used dutasteride and only after orchi. The generics from inhouse are pretty cheap comparatively although the cheapest sells out quite frequently.

Best thing I've done so far is switching to flutamide. I felt the difference straight away and after a month I can actually see it but there is a risk of sudden death due to liver failure and it's costing me a fortune!

~ edit ~

There's that androgen production thing with spiro too I mentioned before but it does seem to only be in the adrenals for me although I've read conflicting accounts. This is not the conversion to DHT from what I've read though and it seemed to do me no good whatsoever before orchi!

Here's something to back what I've said up, not a medical paper but you can't seem to google those at the minute. I'm normally crap at remembering figures but this has been driving me absolutely crazy for two years and I've been somewhat obsessing over it :)

I''ve been using generic dutasteride from In-house, about $1 a pill if bought in quantity, for several years now. I haven't re-grown as much hair as I would like, but taking it has cured my prostate problems, which alone is worth the cost of it. I''ve had some sexual side effects, nipple growth, for instance, but they have all been positive.

Hi, I also take finasteride (for about 2 years now) and my (soft) penis has shrunk from 3 & 1/2 inches to about 1 & 1/2 inches. My sex drive has diminished about 95-97 percent and I haven't been abole to ejaculate since October, 2009! I didn't expect chemical castration from a drung designed to help the prostate (enlarged prostate in me).

It enlarged your prostate, you mean? Or you had an enlarged prostate before? The reason an anti-testosterone or anti-DHT agent is prescribed for that, is because testosterone actually causes the prostate to enlarge.

It seems Dutasteride only affects the conversion of T into DHT. spironolactone reduces the level of T, not specifically targeting the DHT conversion, as Dutasteride does.
