When I was a junior in H.S. my dad bought me an old Ford Prefect.
I have no clue as to why or how that car got to the U.S. but it was
a real piece of crap. The battery bracket was broken and when I hit
a bump sparks would fly out of the hood. I don't think any parts were
available in the states.

I forgot about the Yugo, this had to be the worst car ever made, I remember looking at a consumer guide on the Yugo and it got a fail in every single category. Nothing worked, nothing. It was a piece of garbage that should have stayed in, in, in, wait that country is not even there anymore.

Cars I've seen or had experience with that I've hated were, in no order:
AMC Gremlins / Javelins - had an idiot want to race my Mustang in a Gremlin once!
Any GEM car, an electric golf cart car-wannabe thing.
Nissan's Box thing or anything like it. Just plain ugly.
VW Rabbit - any year, any make. Friend had one. Good night, Irene...
Ford Maverick - aka the Mava-wreck
Ford Escorts - any and all!

Two cars immediately come to mind for ugliest.
- Chrystler K-cars. They looked so utilitarian, just plain ugly, outside and inside; the seats were this disgusting vinyl and they mostly came in 'brown'. Also, they ALL sounded as like a bloated sheep going BAaaaaaaaaaa..... and smelled funny, too; every one I was in smelled vaguely gassy. The car saved Chrysler, but... at what cost, at what cost?!
- The Datsun B-210. Beaten with an ugly stick at the end of assembly.

The Dodge Dynasty was the only car that I traded in in 24 months. Absolutely idiotic inside. The damn thing nearly killed my shoulders. It was too narrow and long and a painfully tight fit for the driver. I have long legs and a short torso and the Dynasty was a disaster. Awful, Awful bunch of cars those ugly stupid Dynasty cars. How does one build a mid-sized car that if two people sit in the front they knock elbows?
Before them, the box-like ugliness of the Dodge 400 and Dodge 600 had huge doors and plenty of room for three adults, four kids and a small dog. So in all of their ugliness, they were utilitarian.
My father's last car was a New Yorker and it could hold seven adults. Boxy, squarish, ugly and yet, comfortable for family get-togethers.
After the Dynasty, Dodge created the Dodge Intrepid and that car was a dream. I owned two of them -- the first model with the frothy transmission that caused the transmission to stop working at odd times after driving up a hill and the second version with the leak prone composite O rings in the air conditioner that needed replaced every year because the air conditioner fluid ate them away... . But a nice handing, well-powered and big inside. The Intrepids looked good too.

I loved my 1988 Escort GT and drove it all over the western US. Great gas mileage (got 45 MPG out of it in northern Arizona once) and even at 100,000 miles had little if any problems with it. I sold it to my brother who spun it up to 200,000 miles before he put it out to pasture.

Grumps. I love Beetles, (old only not these mangled Audi TT's with the beetle name on them) buses, ghias, single cabs, notchbacks and fastbacks. I am a fan of the Air-Cooled Volkswagen imprint. they are fun to drive, and less trouble, and no anti-freeze needed!
