That and death.

Hi Moi,
The most profound thing I ever learned was that there is no universal truth.

I have to point out that this is a restatement of the classic Cretan Paradox (All Cretans are liars, I am a Cretan) which can only be true if it is false. You are proposing as a universal truth that there is no universal tr

Goes back to the line that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not to their own facts. I try, for the most part, to stay out of discussions of political opinions, but get a bit testy when people play fast and loose with facts.

Sorry Moi, but I'm going to have to report you to the ASPCHA (Society for prevention of Cruelty to Hypothetical Animals) Consider the suffering of all those hypothetical cats over the years, not knowing whether they were alive or dead until somebody looked. Why, the suspence would be intolerable.

The cat can't know either.
No harm, no foul.

Some recent finds in Israel make the "out of Africa" theory less plausible.

"JERUSALEM – Israeli archaeologists say they may have found the earliest evidence yet for the existence of modern man.
A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said Monday they found teeth about 400,000 years old. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are half that old."
Moi's Truth never accepted the total out of Africa Theory. Don't ya just luv it when science dogma gets over turned?
I do.

Someone hands you a card.
On one side it says "The statement on the other side of this card is true."
On the other side it says "The statement on the other side of this card is false."
Question: what's the quickest way to get from Dubuque to Milwaukee?

Moi, 400,000 years is nothing, earliest man is found in Africa and is 4 to 5 MILLION years old, not 400 thousand. So it would not surprise me to find Homo Sapiens just about anywhere in the world, just name a place they were most likely found there. On another note, your information is from foxnews? not noted for truth in reporting, more like entertainment reporting but I am with Bob on this one, we own some swamp land we would like you to look at.

River, you are a Mod so YOUR truth must be correct.
Never mind the link.
Now what about your friend Bob3 having no heat.
His fingers too chilled to type, too difficult with mittens. In his upper floor apartment he is on the floor trying to absorb whatever heat comes from below. Probably a Joisey thing. Truth?
Do you suppose he believes in Socialized Warmth yet?

The boiler's not working right in my building. My super says the boiler repair man couldn't make it today ... because it's too cold!
Now what about Homo Sapiens - Wise Man. I've yet to meet this species. The name was probably coined by a Democrat on a college faculty.

Good one - If I ever take another Philosophy class I'm going to be sure bring this one up!
As far as Truth goes, I have to agree with Moi's original statement. Especially if it is a topic one has strong feelings about -- most people's pre-concieved ideas are going to tarnish their perception and memory at least a little bit. Some people a whole lot. Classic example is how fast message board threads can go off topic.

No, I think you misinterpreted what I said. I never claimed a universal truth, I only claimed a personal truth. I never said that there were no "truths", just that there are no "universal truths". I never said that everyone learned what I learned and everyone had the same truth as me or that everyone would have the same truth as me.
But if there is any misunderstanding, I am only claiming it to be a profound truth to me. Yes, what I did write could be interpreted as to suggest I was saying "Moi" would have the same experience as me, but really I was only saying that one way to look at things is from the point of view that there are no universal truths. Not that it was the only way to look at things.
Sorry for not being more clear in what I wrote.
