Yikes, what an awful way to be castrated. Fully conscious, it's a wonder he didn't pass out. I can understand this father's anger, a 57 year old man dating a 17 year old kid? I'm sorry, 17 year old girls don't know what they're doing and this man might have been manipulating her. Did he deserve castration, no, a black eye, sure.
Hash, you can't apply the American standard to this situation. The age of majority or consent in Europe is generally lower than it is in the US. As low as 14 or 15 in some eastern European countries. In western Europe it is generally around age 16.
It could be that this was a completely legal, consensual relationship where it occurred.

In Germany, the age of consent is 14 as long as there is no coercion by a person over 21; a conviction would require a complaint from the younger individual. Some restrictions apply if the person is under 16 and if the individual was coerced and filed a complaint. In rare cases, if the individual was under 18, there might still be prosecution, but only if the younger person complained. A father would have no say about whom his 17 year-old daughter screwed.
We have, in this country, established 18 as that magical age, at which a person is suddenly able to make his/her own decisions. It isn't. If the girl in this story had been 18, what would you have said?
In Germany, this girl was legally old enough to decide whom she wanted to fuck; and the father is lucky he's only accused of attempted murder and not murder. I agree with what others have said: issues with her father probably led her to seek affection from an older man.

If one guy, 10 years older than me, would stroll around with my daughter I would have the same thoughts like this father. I can understand his motivation.
I am not sure, if I would do the final step to hire some friends, but this is a sure way to prevent this pervert old guy fucking young girls.

As a father the first thing I would ask myself what is going on in my daughters head? 17yo isn't that childish anymore. I wouldn't make illusions that old guy forcefully took my girl without her consent. Generally, If I don't want to loose my daughter, I would have an openminded talk with her to understand WHY! Authoritative attitude would probably alienate my daughter further from me.
As a father it would be hard for me to accept the situation of course. Reaction with little thinking probably would make the situation worse.

I got seduced the same way when I was a teenager, by someone much much older.
It was an abuse, took time away from me when I should have been making out with other teenagers.
The father was right - if extreme - pity my own parents were too liberal to intervene. Teenagers are still children, ultimately.

It might nor have been right for someone of his age to be going out with a girl as young as she was,but what the father did was also wrong, two wrongs dont make a right.
And the fact that he was not trying to get her pants off all the time,no doubt like boys of her age would try and do,so maybe she was happy to be with this man,he might not have been just a father figure, maybe more like a grand father figure.

He can stay the grandfather figure as he was before.
Now the father can be sure, that he will not try to get her pants off in the future.
Though the father did not react right, I can still understand him.

I don't care what the age of consent is in Europe, Germany, or Uzbekistan. When a 57 year old man is seeing, dating, or messing with a 17 year old teenager, there's something that's not right about it. Am I too American, too moral or old fashioned? Maybe I am, I don't care, I think this father did what he thought was best for his daughter, I don't agree with what he did, it was ghastly, but again, "What's a 57 year old man doing with a 17 year old kid?" Here's what I think:
1- He's got money and is exploiting her with it.
2- He's got some sexual needs that she's fulfilling and he's treating her with gifts.
3- He's manipulating her and filling her head with things that make her feel good.
4- He's treating her well, unlike the idiot 17 year old teenage boys who only want to get in her pants.

Twinsenboy is undoubtedly right, but bluntly, I think that the father was correct.
I am not rational on this topic. I could assign two names to the 57-year-old and the 19-year-old and I would be talking about my own family history - my sister and a man my mother's age who was a pathological liar. Two decades and two children later (he dumped her pregnant with the second child and had practically starved the first when he was a baby), we're still picking up the pieces. If he is still alive and I find out where he is, I'll pay someone to take him to a prison gate and shove him in.
The father was saving his girl from a lifetime of being raped by an inappropriate monster. He'll be tried for his criminal act, but I'd love to be the foreman on the jury.
