Dragonfly, I read some of your postings and it hit me like a bolt of lightning. Some of this is very similar to me. I always loved female attire and noticed myself as a crossdresser since early childhood but since some years I increasingly dislike my male parts too.

It's only in the last year or two that I have actually acted on these formerly very closeted feelings...I tattooed my bald head...had my ears pierced, bought a pair of womens slippers in size 11 wide...(I'm wearing them now) .Daring, what? Hehe...My toenails have a lovely pedicure...I shave all my body hair...

The SPLC is not a civil rights group. It's a shakedown operation and it's very lucrative. It chose its name so people would confuse it with the SCLC, which MLK was associated with.
That said, you just have to feel through things and form your own opinion about different groups...e.g., the "NOM" really is virulent. The Republican leadership is a bunch of amoral opportunists who know better, and the Democratic leadership is a bunch of amoral cowards who know better. The church is engaging in its usual hair-splitting. And so on.

Well only if you believe that calling out bigots, racists, hate-mongers and homophobes is a shakedown operation.

has shut down more hate groups and has identified more of them any other organization including the U.S. Federal Government.

I stand halfway corrected. They still engage in shakedown operations and smear campaigns against legitimate people, but they did do good work in going after the Klan and the like as well. They smear anyone who doesn't share their politics as a "hate group" but some of the people they list as hate groups are in fact hate groups.
