Interesting how the semi official "vicious" dog changes over the years. Once it was German Shepherds, "police dogs," then , as DeaconBlue pointed out, it was Doberman Pincers, then Pit Bulls. Now it seems to be becoming Rottweilers. I suspect the common theme in a majority is truly evil owners.

Yeah, I read a study once that pretty much proved just that. It was the type of owner that was attracted to certain types of dogs which correlated to the danger of the dogs. And the type of dogs favored by such loser ownerss has changed over time.

I hate when dogs, pit bulls or other, are blamed for the neglect of the humans that have them. Odds are, the dogs were just as neglected as that poor child. Or, as in the case of too many pit bulls, the owners trained them to be vicious guard dogs. No bad dogs - just stupid humans.

I Must agree even the most placid of dogs can turn viscous when mistreated, but also talk about serious neglect by the mother!

We should vilify the IDIOTS who live in apartments or small homes, yet want to keep insanely dangerous dogs, or other dangerous pets (e.g. chimpanzees, tigers), all the while ignoring the poor animals and neglecting to train or discipline them.

Unfortunately, at least here in the USA, the courts would prosecute the owner for the damage done to the thief, while setting the thief free to steal again.

Chewed off his scrotum & testicles? Poor kid. I would guess and hope that his penis was small enough or retracted enough to escape harm. The only good news is that at his age, by the time he reaches puberty, they might have been able to find a donor testicle or two, unless the dog(s) ripped off the spermatic cords completely, let's hope not. Poor kid and stupid mother.

I absolutely love dogs, had a mixed shepherd for 14 years, he could get defensive, especially if his kids were threatened, but he would never have savagely hurt anyone. Pit bulls on the other hand are unstoppable, a friend had his dog killed by a pit bull, Jesse James' on his reality show, had two pit bulls and one killed the other one and he seemed o.k. with it, said it right on one of his shows. I'm sorry, pit bulls are a more dangerous breed, and the dangerous part may have been breed into them. I'd never own one because I couldn't trust them.

That is just flat not true. The old man was a cop for 34 years. He was always telling the patrolmen that trials were lost and criminals let free because of bad police work. Little things can blow a case and he tried to get that message across to the troops. Some listened, most continued their sloppy ways.

I hope I am not venturing too far from the subject of this thread, but I for one do not so much blame "sloppy police work" for the situation in my city today. The "situation" actually, it is pretty much a world wide problem, and it is really a bad situation we find ourselves in right now... Basically, the way I see it:

The courts, the police, and most of our citizens are DANGEROUSLY unaware or unconcerned with the damage caused by theft of any and all types. Instead, public awareness has become totally concentrated on whatever the media focuses on, for now that is "sex crimes." I am not suggesting that any crime should be ignored, but when everyone is only concerned with the "crime du jour" and letting any other sort of criminal off the hook, that is NOT an acceptable situation.

For now, thievery is the safest and easiest way for a criminal to live. Thieves are almost unversally set free on their first prosecuted crime and their criminal records are relatively easily expunged. Our society at all levels seems to think that thievery, especially any non-violent sort, is no big deal, I strongly disagree with that.

So, while your old man may have been spot on to tell his police officers to tighten up on the procedures, I feel almost certain that even the best cop would not be able to see a thief get justice in today's courts. Judges want to keep our jails and prisons packed full with "sex offenders" (i.e. public urination) and "dangerous drug dealers" (i.e. kid who has a bong in his bedroom), but for a "poor little thief" they pour out the mercy and forgivness. Look at how Ken Lay got off the hook, he stole billions of dollars from millions of hard working citizens, yet his conviction was vacated because he "died" before sentencing. Yeah... like hell he died! He and every other thief in the U.S. will never be served justice.

Apparently the mother wasn't charged. Also, she's incredibly hot based on the photo in the article. While I guess you have to respect the justice system (do I have to), it seems that the case could have gone forward -- it was definitely negligent, her other children had recently been removed, and that specific dog had shown interest in the diaper.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Charges have been dropped against a young mother whose baby son lost his testicles in a dog attack.

Carrie Rae McKinney was charged with felony child endangerment back in April after her 6-month-old son was mutilated by a friend's pit bull mix in Riverside County.

But at McKinney's preliminary hearing last Friday, Judge Dennis McConaghy dismissed the case, calling the attack a terrible accident.

"I don't see a crime here," he said.

According to court records, the 23-year-old San Diego woman was visiting a friend in Murrieta on April 3 when she left her son on the floor in a baby carrier near the dog.

She was in another room for about 10 minutes when she heard a scream and returned to find the child's groin area was injured and his diaper had been torn off, according to Deputy District Attorney Gerald Fineman.

The baby's testicles were severed in the attack, Fineman said.

The boy will need hormone therapy for life.

Animal control seized the dog, as well as another dog that may or may not have been involved in the attack.

Both dogs were euthanized.

Prosecutors say the attack was foreseeable because the dog had previously shown an interest in the baby's diaper.

The judge did not allow testimony from police about child protective services having removed McKinney's two older children from her custody within a week before the dog attack.
